This is a short that I wrote for a college class. It will most likely end up as a novella. Please keep in mind that this is a super early first draft, so excuse any simple grammatical errors.

My name is Aquilis Skaar, I am an S.S. or simulated soul. You might be more familiar with the term Artificial intelligence, though where i am from we have advanced far past that. I am writing this to all of you back in 2017 to inform you of an event that will take place 317 years in your future. I remember it like it was yesterday, even though it was 527 years ago for me. Hey, if you've got the memory of a S.S. everything seems like it was yesterday. The year was 2338 Apra 20, it might be pertinent to mention that we in the year 2104 we moved past your primitive system of 12 months. We adopted a 13 month system, each month has 28 days, the left over day is new years day which is not a part of any month. The months are as follows: Januar, Febul, March (oddly stayed the same), Apra, Maai, Juone, Joyly, Agaa, Sepem, Octeb, Novi, Decci, And the new third month Polxi.
Anyway back to the story, Jason was a fairly normal guy from a fairly normal world... well if you consider a world where everything man made is built up of small robots that are half a centimeter cubes called building blocks. Also these building blocks can be controlled through the use of mental thought, even though it is impossible to do so without a neurological broadcasting enhancement device, or N-BED. Essentially a small devise that one places at the base of their skull that allows them to control these building blocks. Like a brooch, but on the back of your head. If you consider that normal then Jason was from a normal world. At 16 years of age Jason was a towering figure, 6'5" tall, with a medium figure. Around his fellow students he felt like a giant, even though his height was menacing, his face was kind. He had light brown hair that hung in a wild mess around his face. His face had fare skin and strong lines, he had piercing blue eyes.
He was walking to school with his twin sister Kilye and his best friend Mike. Kilye was very similar in looks to her brother, though she was noticeably shorter at only 5'8". Mike at 5'11" had rich islander skin and solid but rounder features, his eyes like his hair were a deep brown. As the were walking the were talking about a test that they had to take that day.
"These tests are killing me." Mike grumbled, his eyes were on the ground in front of them, and his shoulders were slumped.
"Come on Mike, cheer up" Jason said with a smile. His voice was light and full of life.  "we've been studying this every night for the last week, and I know that you will do great!"
Kilye grabbed Mikes shoulder, "As much as i hate to say it, he's right you know. I'll bet you'll do the  best out of the whole class."
Mike looked up at Kilye and smiled, "Sarcasm does not become you."
Kilye shoved him, "It wasn't sarcasm you dork."
"come on" Jason said as he picked up a rock. "Lets change the subject."
They continued to walk and converse about one thing and the next. Soon they came up on the Esprit factory, it was one of 5 factory, each interlinked, designed to produce the esprits. esprits were simple A.I.'s designed to mimmic the minds of humans so that they could control the building blocks. They were created so that things such as construction and military could operate free of much human interaction. Each esprit was a three sided pyramid, with about 4 inch sides. Each could also only control enough building blocks to create 1 and a half human shaped objects. That way they could have a body and have enough building blocks to work with.
As the three walked up to the building Kilye pulled her jacket around her and shivered, "That building always gives me the creeps." she mumbled
"Why?" Mike joked "Is it because it mass produces fake minds? Is it because it is a large ominous building? or is it because it reminds you of your brother?"
"Hey!" Jason protested, "I'm tall, not scary. Just to prove it I shall be your protector dear sister!" Jason jumped out in front of the other two grinning the whole time. And with a flourish he threw the rock he had be holding at the brick building shouting "Die evil beast!".
Something exploded. They could feel the vibrations in the ground and the noise was unmistakable. The ground shook so violently that they all collapsed.
"What did you do?!" Kilye shrieked, her eyes were wide and she had a termor in her voice.
"I don't know!" Jason yelled back, "it didn't even hit anything." The ground continued to shake for a while, but just as suddenly as it had started, it stopped. They could here the sounds of machinery start up again.
Slowly they stood back up. Mike was the first to speak, "What was that?" he asked, his voice sounded shaken.
Before anyone could respond they started to here a new sound, screams. They were coming from the building. "What is going on?" Jason's face had gone white and he looked tense.
"should we call someone?" Kilye asked, she looked around the group of the three of them. neither responded they were both staring at one thing, the building. Slowly Kilye turned her head back to the factory, what she saw made her freeze. Standing out front the building was a Esprit. It's large silvery form stood 7 feet tall, blood dripped from its right arm which was currently in the shape of a large spike. None of them spoke, they just stood there watching the Esprit who also stood motionless. After what felt like an eternity mike exhaled and took one step back. Jason opened his mouth to tell him to stop but it was to late. As soon as Mikes foot crunched on the gravel the Esprit twitched, slowly it turned its head toward them.
The Esprit stood regarding them with its cold featureless face, then slowly it took a step toward them, then another and another. With each step its speed increased. "Run!" a voice yelled jarring them from their terror. They looked around for the source of them voice and soon found it. The speaker was a man, he stood next to a side door of the factory. His right arm was covered in plate armor made from building blocks in his hand he held a large gun. The fabric of his left shoulder was wet with blood. "are you deaf? RUN!" the man yelled again. This time it got to them, they took off like bullets running toward and soon past the man. A little past the man Jason finally stopped to look back and what he saw was amazing.
The man opened fire on the Esprit, large bolts of hardened building blocks tore through the Esprit blowing off chucks as they hit. Unfortunately the Esprit was soon upon him and he had to change to melee techniques. With a flurry of metal his weapon changed from sword to shield to spear as he needed them in order to fend off his attacker. After what felt like hours the man saw an opening, as the Esprit swung with a downward attack he shifted his weapon into a gun and fired.
Jason watched as the Esprit crumbled into individual building blocks. The man started to collapse. Jason ran to catch him, luckily because of his height he was able to help the man to the ground. Jason moved to put pressure on the mans shoulder wound but the man grabbed his arm. "there's no point to that lad, I've lost too much blood already."
Jason looked at the mans face concern furrowed Jason's brow, "Thank you for saving our lives."
The man attempted a nod. "Listen lad, everything has changed. The world will never be the same."
"What does that mean?" Jason asked, his voice was shaking and he was covered in sweat.
The man closed his eyes, "It means you are safe, for now."
