This is a sonnet I wrote and I really like the story behind it.

My Final Evening Stroll With Pa

Looking back and it smelled of peppermint;

Pa and I tuned in on the drummer's beats.

We seldom talked, but our hugs abundant.

My coat’s pockets filled erelong with treats.

A flock of people crowded the marquee;

Pa and I clenched hands to keep each other warm.

We walked into the candy shop swiftly;

I chose succulent candies for a storm.

Farewell to the streets for it’s growing dim.

Pa paid a musician to play our verse;

The lyrics always remind me of him.

His last day in Old Milwaukee stays terse.

The sweet treats Pa bought me I never ate;

I will love you forever, I can wait.
