When I was young there was a man,

Who at some point did understand.

The pain I felt inside my heart,

He listened closely and that was the start.

At first I thought; ‘This is absurd’,

‘This man’s too old’, were just my words.

As time went by I began to see,

For him I fell irrevocably.

He was my world, he was my muse,

But in his arms I felt so used.

He was the man, who’s worth a fight,

My cunning love, my “Mr. Right”.

But in betrayal this love did end,

And I prevailed with a boy who was a friend.

I fell in love with who I thought was “Mr. Right”,

At seventeen and so naïve I did believe that he was mine.

But I was wrong and it turned out he only loved my youth,

And someone came and made me see how obvious was the truth.

At twenty-six, as I recall everything he used to say,

“Mr. Right” now labels me as “the one who got away”.
