A Desert Trek

A ship of the desert, a creature built for sand,

we are the most well-suited for this empty, barren land.

For miles and miles I’ll travel, a slow and steady march

across the endless gold expanse that leaves so many parched.

But then I had an accident, I fell and lost my feet,

it meant that half way through my journey I’d have to admit defeat.

Then here it comes, this vehicle, with some monstrous roar,

making bigger sand clouds than I’d ever seen before.

It pulls up there beside me, and they lower down a ramp,

it’s gonna be a squash in there, I hope I don’t get cramp.

And then we’re off, the air blows cool, the sand, it stings my face

but we sure are eating up those miles - we set a rapid pace.

Ahead I see more camels plodding steadily along,

we are quickly past them; first they’re there and then they’re gone.

I really could get used to this with just how cool it feels

to give my feet and legs a rest and travel on these wheels.

A squeal of brakes, a sudden stop, no longer moving on,

I’m hoping that the sudden jolt's not made my hump be gone.

I’ll be back to trekking soon, to stepping through the sand,

for I am one of many ships, the kind that move on land!
