Chapter 15- Enter the Monster

Heinrich's vision was blurry after he opened his eyes. He could barely make out a face looking down on him. As his vision became clearer, he recognized the face as that of Charles.

"Master Lance, are you all right? How do you feel?"

"Like I've been run over by a Burlington Northern Sante Fe locomotive, " he answered

Charles called for aspirin and juice. He held the glass of juice to Heinrich's lips who slowly sipped.

"What exactly was that thing down there? Why haven't I been told about it?" Hienrich asked weakly

Charles looked crestfallen. He hated to be in this situation. Dishonesty went against his nature.

"I suppose the sooner you learn about it all, the better," he began.

"As you know, Doctor Townsend was a scientist. More accurately, an astrophysisist. After he sold his company, he started dedicating his time to the study of vortexes and portals to other dimensions. He strongly believed in their existence. As a matter of fact, he believed that these portals were responsible for most, if not all, the UFO sightings that the world has had all these centuries.

Heinrich just lay silent and listened. He had sat up by now and had taken a few sips of juice

"Doctor Townsend believed that  areas which had strong magnetic fields and radiation were where these portals were located, and it was a matter of the use of advanced technology to be able to breech any natural barriers to these portals," Charles continued. He stopped at this point and took a drink of water and then asked Heinrich how he fetl

"I'm OK," he repied, "please continue."

"With the wealth and knowledge that he had, the doctor was able to design and constuct, for lack of a better way to put it, interdimensional portal detection equipment. For years he searched, but never found anything. Then one day, he discovered this area. The radiation and magnetic readings were off the charts," Charles said

"Forthwith",the head of the estate staff continued, "he had this estate built right over it, so he could continue his work here. There were times he would put in over twenty hours a day. Finally, after years of research and hard work, he was able to open and close these interdimensional portals. He had help, primarily from me, as I am a retired scientist myself who always had  a deep interest in the same things he did."

After a pause, Charles continued. "We had a strong desire to do interdimensional travel, but how were we to acheive that and return safely? After months of more intensive research and tireless labor, we were able to fashion protective type suits where we would always be able to explore and come back never being detected by anyone or anything in these other dimensions. Soon, we made enough suits for everyone here and we all did interdimensional travel."

"And the things we saw were fascinating!", Charles said with a gleam in his eye. "This went on for a number of years. Then, one dark day, the doctor got very sick. With all this work for so many years, he neglected his health. We rushed him to the closest hospital. Then, that evening, we got the news. He had pancreatic cancer in it's late stages.

"We took him to the finest cancer care providers in the world," Charles sadly coninued, "but he could not be saved. We brought him back here to his home so he could die in peace. We had a medical staff stay on the premise to insure he never experienced a lot of pain. And in his last days, he called for you to come be at his side. However, by the time you were located, it was too late"

"I must explain to you that you went into the portal without a suit," Charles added, having moved a little closer to Heinrich. "and you were very very lucky to have made it back. What happened to you? What did you see? You came flying out of there, uncoinsciuous."

Heinrich relayed the experience to him in a very short accounting. Then he told Charles he was feeling weak again and wanted to rest. Charles excused himself and turned off the light.

Heinrich woke up in the ptich black of his bedroom. He was breathing very deeply and had that feeling of superhuman strength again.

He got up and went into the bathroom, turned on the light, and looked in the mirror.

Then he gasped. He had no pupils and his eyes were a deep red! Suddenly he heard voices from downstairs.

Heinrich made his way to the top of the stairway and listened. The staff were talikng about him.

"How dare they!" he thought "Who the fuck do they think they are talking about me behind my back?"

He walked into the vast living room that they were conversing in.  All stopped and looked at him, their eyes widening..

It amused him that it now seemed they were fearful of him. And they had good reason to be as he was lord and master of this place and was now going to teach them a lesson about talikng behind his back!

With lightening speed he tore into them, tearing them limb from limb, very easily with the strength he now had.

Heinrich stood in the middle of the room in silence, now that all the screaming was done.

His grin widened.
