Chapter 7- A Terrible but Wonderful Idea

To add to Heinrich's shock and dismay that horrible night, the administrator had informed him that his insurance had been cancelled that afternoon.

It appeared that he had been terminated.

He had gone through all his savings to pay the parts that his insurance would not cover for Greta's treatments for her previous strokes. All he had was the remnants of his last paycheck.

As he sat there, he finally made up his mind that he was going to contact the law and tell them everything. His Greta was laid to rest three weeks ago. Heinrich now didn't give a damn what they would do to him. Or try to. He would go into the wittness protection program.

When the police had originally questioned him, he was too afraid to tell the truth and had told them he had battled home invaders. But things were different now.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door. He looked through the small window next to it and saw his wife's cousin Lance wave at him.

An instant later, as he opened the door, he had a both horrible and wonderful idea.

Ray took another sip of his brandy as he tossed another log into the fireplace. It was Christmas Eve and Sarah and April had come over for dinner.

Mike was very good at cooking. It was the guy's turn as they had dinner at April's last year. He had spent a few days putting together the feast; tradtional goose with all the cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, etc.

Both Sarah and April were in their mid fifties, like Mike and Ray. Both worked out and had admirable builds, also like Ray and Mike. Sarah was a redhead and April was a blonde.

Ray was taking writing classes to become an author, and Mike stayed busy with some charity foundations he had started. One was called Second Chance as it gave housing to the homeless and sponsored classes such as basic administration skills and auto mechanics. It also provided child care while the parents attended these classes.

"Look," Sarah said pointing to the large living room window, "it's starting to snow."

"Indeed it is," Ray added as he put his arm around Sarah's waist. They watched as the flakes came slowly down.

"Time for chow," Mike said as he wrung his tradtional triangular dinner bell.

April raised and eyebrow and said "Chow? Once the navy gets in a man it never comes out ."

"You just now finding that out?" Sarah asked.

Sarah wore a red dress with boots and a green Christmas broach.  April wore a green dress and boots. Both were cocktail type

Ray and Mike wore Christmas sweaters and dark pants.

They ate and drank merrily as they watched the Jim Carrey version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. They finished off with coffee, ice cream, and pecan and pumpkin pie. A few minutes later they made their way to the couch and recliners.  The Grinch had just burned up the town Chrismas tree.

"Bummer," Mike said, half asleep

"Think the guy needs anger management," added Sarah

"Ya think?" Ray chimed in

Suddenly the scene was switched to Disney World in Florida. Helicopters were flying around the main castle.

"We interrupt this program to bring you this newsflash!" the announcer said. "It appears we have a hostage situation in Disney World at the main castle. A family is being held by what appears to be terrorists on the guest floor. We have no idea how they managed to get weapons into the park or how many there are of them. They have given a list of captured terrorists that they want set free in the next twelve hours or they have threatened to blow the top half of the castle sky high."

Mike and Ray just sat there, faces grim and sad. They looked at one another. Suddenly Ray started wheezing, rocking, and coughing.

"Did you put some damn almonds in that salad again?!" Ray asked when he could.

"Aw shit !" Mike said as he put his hand to his forehead, "I forgot again!"

"You dumb ass!"  Ray exclaimed, between coughs

Mike turned toward their visitors and said "Sorry but I've got to get him to bed. It's probably best that the both of you head home."

"Shouldn't we take him to the hospital?" asked Sarah as they headed towards the door.

"No," answered Mike, "last time this happened he just eventually went to sleep and he was fine the next morning. Don't worry. He should be OK"

Sarah and April gave each other a somewhat questionable look and then walked out the door.

About five minutes later, in costume, the pair soared into the night and turned south
