Diary entry:

18/5/1253 CE

Only a week after I got the job as falconer I’ve been given a heap of responsibility, including feeding it, training it, exercising it, looking after it, keeping it healthy, keeping it safe, the list goes on forever.

I have been given a great place to stay though, I have a nice warm home with a fireplace, big windows and plenty of space. I think I’m going to love working as a falconer! My boss seems alright, not kind but not demanding either.

Tomorrow I’ll be going out on my first training run, I’ve been looking forward to this for ages, my boss is depending on me heaps. However, unfortunately I also have to feed it a certain daily diet of dead animals, like rats.

Today was great! I did get several injuries but they aren’t that bad, just a few scratches here and there. The best part was that I got to hold a real, live falcon on my arm! I was nervous at first but I quickly got used to it, he’s actually quite nice, just sits there and doesn’t bother me.

My boss on the other hand, doesn’t think I’ll last that long. He thinks I’ll either quit, get injured or killed during the job.

In one week’s time we have our first hunt with the king himself, my boss is stressing that our falcon isn’t good enough so he’s spent hundreds of dollars buying gear for it to wear. Tomorrow I’ll be working 12 hours instead of the usual 7. I think my boss really wants to impress him.
