This story takes place in this small village Mandu. Sometimes, in the year 1715, there was this peaceful and happy kingdom under king Raja Maan Singh. Raja Maan Singh ruled his kingdom wisely and cleverly. He was a benevolent ruler who also was very fair in his rulings and judgments, and he took time to listen to every one of his subjects’ issues. Everyone under his rule was very happy and contented. Not only the king, but his queen who was very learned and compassionate and was always very cheerful. They had a young daughter Kanika, who was not only beautiful, but also the pretty smile on her face was very infectious.
But, everything was not okay in this small kingdom as there was evil lurking in the shadows to pounce upon this small and happy place. There was a evil tantric, whose name was Baiju Baba.Baiju Baba was a very ambitious person and wanted to be the most powerful person in the world, for this he used to indulge in occult practices which included human sacrifice. Until now, he had sacrificed over two hundred children in the blind belief that he would gain immortality by capturing their souls  and giving them as a present to his master, Satan. One day, his eyes fell on the beautiful Kanika who was playing in the garden with her friends. Unfortunately, he could not approach her , as there were too many palace guards around her. So, he started devising a plan to snatch her and sacrifice her as the ultimate present to his lord. One day when the king was out hunting along with the queen, Baiju Baba got his chance and kidnapped little Kanika right from her room and brought her to his cave to sacrifice her. When the King and Queen and their hunting party returned to the palace, they were informed that princess Kanika was missing and a search party was looking for her, both the king and queen also joined the search along with a larger search party. They looked throughout the kingdom and asked people whether they had seen her  when someone told them that they had seen a tantric carrying a big rucksack over his shoulder through which screams of a little child could be heard. The King’s party quickly found out about the tantrik’s cave and rushed to save the princess. Unfortunately, they were a little late in doing so and the evil tantric had already done his misdeed and was about to offer her soul to Satan, when he was caught in the act by the king’s men. The tantric was furious and tried to fight off the soldiers who were holding him down. Both the king and queen were aghast at the loss of their only daughter and the queen broke down and fell unconscious to the ground. The tantric was arrested and taken to the court to be punished. The news of death of princess Kanika spread throughout the kingdom and everyone was shocked and sad at the loss of innocence and happiness. The evil tantric was brought to trial and sentenced to be beheaded, but before this sentence was passed the tantric was stoic and his  eyes were glowing hot with anger and hatred just like red-hot coal . When the king and court asked him that why had he done such a misdeed , he did not answer to any of the their questions , but just kept staring  at the whole court with fierce in his eyes .As the judgment was passed that he would be beheaded outside; the tantric just gave a maniacal laugh at them which put a chill running down everyone’s spine. When he was taken outside the courtyard to be beheaded, the weather suddenly took a nasty turn, there were dark clouds overhead, a strong wind  started to blow and all of  a sudden there were thousands of crows which started crowing out of nowhere, the guards also saw that foxes and wolves started running here and there. The Tantric then said  looking up at his executioners:” This is an ominous sign, that I will come back for that which rightly belongs to me, and I  curse the kingdom that the firstborn of this family will not survive  more than five years.”Hearing this, the guards grew more furious and quickly chopped his head off .His body was buried in the ground with Trishuls put astride his grave, as he had warned that he would again rise from the ground if the any drop of royal blood fell on his grave. After the evil tantric was killed, an uneasy gloom fell on the kingdom; there were earthquakes, famines and diseases everywhere. The king and queen, although bereaved by their loss could not afford to let their kingdom suffer. They handed over the reins to the king’s younger brother, Rajkumar Chandra Bhaan Singh and retired to a life of solitude and anonymity.

Although the family has lost its royalty, but still the people of Mandu pay them the same respect  and admire and worship them as they used to to do with their fore fathers. Raja Virendra Pratap is a retired MP of Rajya Sabha and is survived by his wife and three sons, and two daughters who with their families live with their father. Raja Vikram Singh is survived by his wife and a son and two daughters who also live with them. Ajit Kumar Singh, who is the eldest son of Raja Virendra Pratap, has studied abroad along with his wife Meena and both of them are actively involved in expanding their family business. They get a lot of help from their siblings and their spouses in diversifying their businesses.

Though, almost 300 years have passed since Baiju Baba put the ancient curse on the royal family and the promise which he made that “I will come again, when the first drop of royal blood falls on the ground to claim what is mine”, no one in the present day gives much credence to the prophecy as most of the new generationhas largely studied and lived abroad, and also they have broken the curse by staying abroad as the curse is not international in its standards. But, the village elders still believe that however modern and progressive you may become, there are some things which still are true. After all, India is a land of ancient wisdom, magic, mysticism and tales. Ajit Kumar Singh has a lovely 4 year daughter Priya, who was one day playing in the garden along with her friends, when she unconsciously wanders off to that place where the evil tantric was buried and tridents were stuck on the ground to keep the spirit from returning, and accidently gets her finger cut on one of the tridents, and blood gushes out and falls to the ground. Priya, starts crying and people come rushing to her and take her for immediate medical attention. That day was the beginning of misfortunes to befall the family as during the night strange things happen, for example the family had six dogs and all of them starting howling suddenly without any probable cause, the family also used to rear and breed fine quality horses for sports, and the horses also in their stables start fidgeting and neighing as if something is amiss. One of the family servants Ramu, while doing his one of daily rounds goes to the stable to check that what is wrong with the horses.  There he suddenly finds that the horses are acting as if they are afraid of something, so he starts soothing them but then he hears a strange noise coming from the back of the stables. As he goes round the back, he sees the apparition of Baiju baba, in a terrifying form, Ramu gets rooted to the spot out of fear and before he can think of anything, his head gets lobbed off. The next day, Shankar, another one of the stable hands discovers Ramu’s headless body while cleaning the stables and informs the family and the police about the matter. The very same evening, Priya mysteriously disappears from her room. The whole family starts looking for her first around the house, as it is a very big house, but she is not there, her friends also don’t know where she is. Meena then calls the police and tells them about Priya’s disappearance, the police first think that one of the servants might have taken her for ransom, or some business rival could be responsible for her disappearance. But, during the investigations, all of their theories prove to be false. The whole family is in shock and distress and specially Meena, who used to dote on Priya, is completely distraught and stops taking food for days.

The family purohit is called to the residence to find some solutions as the police continue their investigations, and the media keeps the news alive with their daily coverage. The family Purohit, who have for generations have served the family then tells them that, he had got some premonition right from the moment when Priya cut herself on the burial ground. He tells them that the first drop of royal blood when fell to the ground, Baiju Baba’s evil spirit reawakened as prophesied by him, and now he is the doer of all these things. When Ajit Kumar Singh, the father , says that he doesn’t believe in this stupid tales, the Purohit again warns him and tells him about an  earlier incident where something like this  was about to happen , but with the help of the Purohit’s grandfather and a sacred Trident, the evil spirit was subdued and put back in the grave. The Purohit asks the father to take the sacred trident and smear it with his own blood and if he can pierce it into the evil spirit’s heart during his evil initiation, then they can be rid of this ancient evil curse.

Ajit Kumar Singh, despite his protestations, is finally convinced by Meena to do as told by purohitji, agrees to do he is destined to do. One day, someone from the village tells them that there are some old caves outside the village and they should check that. The father goes alone in search of his beloved daughter towards the caves. Once, when he reaches the dark and foul dungeons, he finds that the spirit of Baiju Baba is about to sacrifice his lovely daughter Priya, who is lying unconscious on the stone altar. Ajit Kumar Singh, when he sees that, he flies into a fit of rage but remembers to smear the o f the trident with his blood and flings it towards the evil spirit. The Trident pierces the heart of Baiju Baba’s spirit and he is forever banished to depths of hell with no chance of coming back. Ajit saves his daughter and brings her back home, and the whole family is overjoyed , specially Meena that now her daughter is back with her and all the ancient evil curse which had condemned them for some many centuries is finally over. The family throws a big party all across the village and celebrate till morning and they live happy with the feeling that from now on everything will be good.
