Nichi Botsu

The guard helped her up and handcuffed her slyly.

“Sneaky,” Nichi grinned. “So what’s your name?” Nichi’s curiosity lingered.

“It’s Jael Aimery Jacin.”
“Can I call you Jacin?”
“No, you may not.”
“Because, it’s impolite unless you know me.”

“You’re exactly what’s wrong with our country.” Nichi rolled her eyes. Nichi smacked him across the head with her handcuffs. Jael fell, unconscious.

“Now look what you’ve done, I have to find the exit on my own now.” She smiled and yanked her foot from underneath his chest. She gritted her teeth and banged her handcuff’s chains against the corner of the table. They snapped and her glance shifted over to the bed. A beautiful purple silk comforter lined with little golden designs. The window was open, as she left it, and she glanced at the red curtains. She walked over to them, slow and steady. And yanked. It didn’t rip. She yanked harder, no rip.

“What the heck are these made of?” she got the dagger out of her pocket and sliced at the top. She sliced another. And

another. Soon all of the curtains were cut off, long red fabric in little piles. She took the jagged end of one and tied it to another. She tied knots and braids, then when she was done, she braced herself. She trotted towards the queen bed and grabbed one of the feet.

“Here it goes...”

She lifted with all her might, she groaned, a hand grabbed her arm. Her eyes widened.

“Need help?”

“I do.” Now that she had a good look at him, she noticed his pale skin and his green eyes. She also noticed the earring on his left ear, a blue gem dangling down. She felt her face heat up. She slipped a pill in his open, flirtatious mouth.

“What was that?”

“A painkiller, I seriously doubt your head is painless after I hit you across the head with some metal handcuffs...”

“True...” he rubbed his head. “That did hurt.” Nichi glared at him.

“Why aren’t you sleeping yet?” “What-“ he trailed off, collapsing.

“Painkillers,” Nichi laughed. “Sleeping medicine, you idiot...” Nichi slipped a loop of red fabric underneath the foot of the bed and tugged.

“That should hold... And if it doesn’t, I blame fate, not my poor safety skills.”

Nichi tossed it out the open window. She climbed through it, a bead of sweat running down her temple. She yanked it, and tied it around her hand. She made a slip knot and she slipped down it.

“You know what would really suck?” she asked herself. “If this was too short and I was at the bottom when I realized it.” she continued.

“Hey!” a voice called from the window.

“How much effort do I have to put into killing you?!?!?” she yelled up. Jael was leaning out the window yelling.

“I just want to talk!”
“How many of you are there?!?!?” she yelled back. “Two!”

“Then talk to each other!” she slipped down the fabric slickly and fast. Soon, she was on the ground, again. Of this unfair country. She ran, noticing the girl with the sparkly blue dress and curly hair leaning out the window with him. He tugged her back in and Nichi couldn’t see them anymore.

“ I need a phone...” she ran outside the royal palace barriers until she hit a hallway of roses. It was like a little tunnel, with little patches of sunlight peeking through the thorns of the red roses. She stopped to admire it. There were walls or roses, just roses, somehow taking the shape of a gentle tunnel. She stroked one of the roses, cutting her finger. A drop of blood dripped onto the rose below it. The colors combined.

“Filthy...” She shook her head. “To think... To think this place could have a shrivel of beauty! A bit of happiness or joy! Oh to think!” she yelled, holding her hands out releasing her palms yelling up to the sky, which was also filled with roses. She ran, hot tears running down her cheeks. She ran out of that horrible tunnel. Out of that horrible palace. She’d been running, with her eyes closed, not knowing where she was going, what direction, who was there... She didn’t care. She opened her eyes and she was in a field. A wooden sign that read;

private property do not cross, of course, Nichi was more stubborn than a donkey, so of course, she did the opposite. She glanced behind her, seeing a far road. Close to where she lived.

“Everyone who lives next to royalty is threatened and tormented by her greed and power.”

“Idiot, Jack, ruining my fun...” She turned around and trotted back in her apartment’s direction.

“Hey! Get off my property!” a voice behind her scolded.

“I tried.” She spoke to herself shaking her head. She ran over to the man and put him in a headlock. The man had a little bit of a beard, more like fuzz, and he wasn’t in shape, a blue bathrobe clung to him, seemingly too tight.

“Tell me where your money is. I just want 20 dollars, and if I don’t get what I want, then I’ll take it all. Understand?”

“Fine, you could’ve just asked.” He flashed her a flirtatious grin that Nichi ignored. He handed her a 20 dollar bill.

“On one condition.” he said, taking it back. “What is it?”
“I want that knife.”

“That has nothing to do with that we are talking about. But I’m giving you three seconds to get away from me.” No one spoke, no one moved. “I gave you a chance, idiot.” she kicked the man in the stomach and he fainted from pain. She pried the money out of his cold hands and ran. She ran to her apartment.

“Crud. They took my keys. God, do I have to break into my own house?” Nichi rolled her eyes and her attention shifted to the money. She snuck behind the building.

“If anyone sees me... They won’t hesitate to turn me in.”
