Nichi Botsu

“Promise.” Nichi repeated. Another twig snapped, drawing her attention.

A speargun rose from the bushes.

“A speargun? What is it the 1900’s?” Nichi tried to act amused as a Guard emerged from the bushes. It was Jael.

“Oh, phew! I thought I was dealing with someone dangerous! Lucky it was just you.” She mocked him. He smirked.

“Happy to see you too.” He circled her, like a vulture would circle it’s prey.

“The feeling is mutual.” She grinned, reaching for her gun. An animal snarl clawed up her throat.

“I’m going to kill you.” She said. Jael dove his shoulder into Nichi’s chest, slamming her against the wall. Nichi started to land solid punches into Jael’s gut. A knife suddenly emerged from his belt, slicing into her thigh. She groaned, but didn’t bother to pay attention to it. Adrenaline rushed through her veins, and warm blood traveled down her leg, her thigh throbbing. She swung a punch to his gut once again, grabbing the knife he’d used and sliced him into his thigh, it merely grazed him.

“Now we’re even.” She scoffed.

Jael was now doubled over, the punch had caught him off guard and he groaned, Nichi, however, was relentless, she swung another punch towards Jael. Instinctively, Jael blocked the punch and swung his hand to Nichi’s neck. He dropped her from his hold and watched Nichi stagger

backward violently coughing. She quickly got up, rushing out from behind the building. She let the blood run freely down her arm but only paid attention to the adrenaline pumping through her veins. She spotted Naomi rubbing her arm, dark with blood.

“What happened?!?” Nichi ran to her. “I told you to leave!”

“I wasn’t just gonna leave and let you get my daughter that I’ve been searching for, for... years and then just deliver her in a cardboard box to my house!”

Naomi looked her square in the eye, and though it pained her to admit, Nichi knew she was right.

“I’m sorry.” Nichi’s tone softened. “What happened to your arm?” Naomi glanced up at her.

“Just a scratch.” her voice was raspy and strained.

“Give me a piece of cloth.” Nichi demanded, but before Naomi could reach down and grab some, Nichi swung her hand and ripped a piece off of Naomi’s pink camo shirt. She tied it just above Naomi’s cut in her arm.

“What are you doing?” Naomi cringed.

“I’m saving your life, if I can stop the bleeding, you’ll have longer to live.” Nichi finished the knot and patted her arm.

“Nasty little guards,” Naomi spoke, accent, thick. “Someone should give them a good talking-to.” she continued.

Nichi looked at her, astonished.

“Yes. Yes, they should,” She froze, “I will march right into the Empress’s palace and tell her that bullying is unacceptable.” Nichi chuckled and Naomi followed.

“So, how old is your daughter?” Nichi peered up at her. Naomi’s eyes were traveling.

“She'd be... 17.”
Then, they heard a scream.
