Too Tired

Too tired to sit here typing when my head is full of mush

but I’ve set myself a deadline – kind of means I’m in a rush.

I need to get my head to work, I need to be thinking straight;

I’ll hit that strong black coffee but it might be just too late.

The words they are all swirling round, refuse to make much sense,

they’re conspiring to defeat me, and sure make me feel so dense.

The screen goes out of focus, I have to rub my eyes and blink;

that’s nothing compared to the effort it takes to get my brain to think.

But night time when I go to bed sleep seems so far away --

the tiredness has decided that with me it’s gonna play.

And then there come the nightmares that make sleeping become a threat,

I love the dreams but it does seem I’ve no control on which I get.

So I’ll sit here and yawn away, hoping some sense I do make,

this nightly insomniatic scene is something I can’t take!
