Turning It Back.

Have you ever wanted to turn back time,

to get hold of those clock hands

and turn them in the opposite direction,

making time itself reverse.

I’ll grab this clock,

smash the glass

and force them backwards,

faster, faster,

further, further.

But when I stop it’s not enough;

too many wrong decisions,

bad choices,

wrong words,

muddled voices.

They need to keep moving,

backwards in time,

to a place that

I can feel

is mine.

But where is it, that place?

Not here, not there,

I’m dragged

and tangled up

in my despair.

I know the answer now;

I take those hands and

I force them around

so fast I think

they might just

snap.

But no, they are still there

held in place.

Just a few more turns

and I’ll have reached

that time,

that place

in space

where I’m not a fish out of water,

slowly suffocating

in a net

of my own creating.

I’ll reach that place

where I don’t exist,

I never was

so I can’t be missed

and I’ll make sure it does not happen;

no me to mess up everything,

no guilt,

no pain,

no heartbreak,

for here

I shall

remain.
