Waiting For The Mail Van

I’m waiting for the mail van, it’s running rather late,

I love to be here hiding when the guy gets to the gate.

There’s something that I really love – to jump out with a bark,

it’s even more effective when the morning’s are still dark.

I recognize that vehicle as it’s progressing down our street,

his voice is so inviting as he chats to people he might meet.

I’m gonna take a look and see -- that van’s not yet in sight,

and I’m getting so impatient, I want to give this guy a fright.

But now it’s right near dinner time, I have not got a clue

why this mail van has not yet appeared in my field of view.

Then I run and hide from the loud bangs, the fireworks in the sky,

July the 4th, they celebrate, so now I know just why.

Come tomorrow he’ll be back again, and I’ll be by the gate,

I might make him kind of nervous but he really is my mate!
