A Premonition

Have you ever had one of those feelings where you know something is going to happen. You don’t know why you feel that way, have not got a clue, but it’s almost as though the very air around you is thrumming with it. An expectation! It would not be so bad if you knew of what, but you really have no idea other than ‘something’.

It could be something good, pleasant; something delightful. And because of that possibility you cannot help but to feel at least a tiny bit excited. The extent of that excitement is probably determined by how much of an optimist you are. If you are a ‘cup half full’ person the chances are that you will be expecting the best.

However, if you are a ‘cup half empty’ person, like me, you will probably feel more of a sense of foreboding rather than excitement. What doom or disaster is waiting in the wings for the most opportune moment to strike? It will wait until you drop your guard, until you find something to smile about and then.....BAM! Even though you were expecting it, it hits so hard that it floors you.

More often than not these feelings turn out to be nothing at all, neither good nor bad but just a flight of imagination. Wishful thinking or dread making your brain tingle and setting your chemical impulses off their even keel. You wait expectantly and nothing happens, to be restored.

But sometimes, very occasionally, these feelings turn out to be true. Does the premonition help though? Make it easier to cope with the surprise whether good or bad? Are you any more prepared when whatever it is occurs? I don’t know; you tell me!
