It’s out of place, I think—the heart you wear upon your sleeve

Putting it on such candid display, inviting all manner of perversely slick hands to attempt a grab

You’re baiting the devils, I hope you know—they’re all just waiting to devour your spirit

It’s not like they care if you bleed or not; they just want to see how quickly you’ll fall, how fetchingly you’ll shatter

They’re game for your demise, and they’ll drag you to the edge

They’ll ride you all through heaven, and abandon you in hell

You’d do well to hide it, I think—lock it away inside your chest

The heart you’re wearing on your sleeve will soon be broken, bruised, and burnt

You call me a cynical, jaded thing, and say that love is bought with pain

I say it isn’t worth the price then, but you wear your heart out—all the same
