Every tear has a story, but the stories don’t always make sense; they don’t always make reasons believable enough to count or mean anything

But every tear has a story, and that’s why they’re so easy to remember

Smiles are a different thing altogether, and they always have a moment

Those moments come sporadically for some or sparsely for others, but they always come—without fail

And they are beautiful…but they don’t last

Because they are pathetically fragile—those moments

And that’s why smiles break so easily, and often are washed away and long forgotten in the wake of tears

Hot tears, cold tears, bitter tears, sweet tears—all with their stories to tell

Tears outlast the best and brightest of smiles

Stories outlast the longest, most tangible moments

You may hide yourself behind a smile and live your life moment by moment

But eventually the stories will pile up, and ultimately—they will have to be told
