The Hot Way out

The two portly men wearing denim shorts and black T-shirts emerged from air-conditioned atmosphere of the stranded 4x4 in the middle of the scorching Sahara desert.  The shorter one of them took a small metal hipflask from his pocket and shook it. They could hear the gin inside slush from side to side.
“The engine may be gone, we still have some water,” said the taller man. “We’d better start walking to that oasis. How far is it?”
“Something like twenty five miles to the west,” said the short man as he watched the fine grains of sand close around his sandal after the first step. Then he took step with his other leg. There was the same result. “We’ll be fine, but we could have done with those hats we left in the hotel,” he said.
“I hope so,” the tall man replied as he joined his companion. “Are we going to make it, that’s the question?”
The short one slid the hipflask in his pocket again and patted it gently before he replied: “I sure as hell will.”
