Stonehenge

They dragged the mighty stones across the land

On wooden sledges with calloused hands,

160 miles from the mountains of Wales

They came to rest at Salisbury plain.

They watched as the stars and heavens turned

The secrets of the seasons were revealed and learned.

They set the stones upright with pulleys and ropes

The Henge was a monument to their aspirations and hope.

A great stone clock they had built

To mark the passing of time,

Solstice, equinox and festival

That’s what made this time piece chime.

Ancient minds had conceived it,

Ancient hands had built it,

Ancient lives it controlled,

Stonehenge, a wonder to behold!
