The Game

By Quentin “doctor” Armstrong

It’s fourth down and seventeen. Four Cloud Blitz. I glanced down at the snow and ice and say to myself “this is our last chance no turning back.”  There it goes soaring down right field. In my mind I feel bigger, better, and more confident. Everyone is going crazy. Earlier during a timeout, my coach tells me to avoid the ice and throw a perfect spiral

I walk back onto the field with confidence, eye on that gold trophy waiting for me, the massive celebration and say my prayers for everything to go right. Here’s the snap as I gaze down the field looking for my target. Although I’m ducking and dodging lineman and linebackers, I manage to release the rock that will take my team home with pride. The ball is caught with a holding call fifteen yard penalty repeat first down. With thirty seconds at mid field one final chance at a fight to the finish line.

Connection and game winner!  Commentators are screaming “it’s in, ladies and gentleman, Quentin has thrown the game winner to #2 Coffey Evans who passed it to #11 Ray Mond Bennett for the game winner!” I can hear the fans cheering 2012 M.V.P as I walk to mid field to claim my trophy.

After what felt like days, of the stadium celebration I get in my hummer bus with my teammates driving home to delicious dinner made by my wife, Ashley and brother from another mother, Garius “G- Baby” Evans. Before dinner I go in my trophy dome to place our beautiful gold milestone in a special safe place. As I look back into the past, that day not only was I proud of my teammates, but also my good sportsmanship for the San Diego Chargers job well done and good things coming next season.
