If You Went Away

If you went away, would it really matter?

Life would go on with a sputter and a spatter.

Well, yes if you count a hollowness of being,

an extremely downbeat way of seeing.

I guess that I would still be breathing,

although in a way, my life would be leaving.

I'd be weighed down under some black cloud,

enveloped and wrapped tightly in my shroud.

I’d still have the ability, a way to chatter

but would stay silent – no longer matter.

I’ll be awash, with tears never ceasing,

bleeding out from this mental creasing.

Totally lost, could not find my way

back from when I thought you’d stay.

There’ll be some gap, a yawning chasm,

my brain stuck in some useless spasm.

A life suspended, in a deep void,

knowing that with me you toyed.

So if you went away it wouldn’t really matter

but you’d have thrown out my heart and set it to shatter.
