The Hunted

We’re running for our very lives, this timber wolf and me,

these guys with guns are after us and we have got to flee.

We’re racing through the long green grass, tripping over roots,

dodging and seeking shelter before one of them just shoots.

The trees and bushes thicken up, becoming way more dense,

the coverage brings a chance for us, the relief is so immense.

We’ve battled this together and a team of two we have become,

a pairing up of necessity, not one that’s born from fun.

Seeking out some shelter, we move stealthily together,

and there we find a nest of sorts, one that they’ll find never.

Without a word we settle down, we communicate by eye,

you let me move real close to you, I’ll lay down with a sigh.

There’s comfort from your nearness, a security we’ll keep;

our breathing slows, our panic stills and soon we’re fast asleep.

We’ll stay here as companions and our friendship, it will last,

at least until the hunt has moved along and the danger, it has past.
