A bodyguard is a type of security guard who protects a person or people — usually high-ranking public officials or officers, wealthy people, and celebrities — from danger. The role of bodyguards is often misunderstood by the public for the exciting lifestyle depicted on the film screen. The role of a real-life bodyguard is much more mundane: it consists mainly of planning routes, pre-searching rooms and buildings where the client will be visiting, researching the background of people that will have contact with the client, searching vehicles, and attentively escorting the client on their day-to-day activities.

Kevin is a professional bodyguard. He is a highly successful private bodyguard, mostly protecting corporate VIPs. Formerly he was a Secret Service agent who served as part of the presidential protection detail during two presidencies. This time he is hired to protect Whitney Houston, an Academy Award-nominated music superstar who is being stalked and sent death threats. Kevin's concerns are quickly realized when Whitney looks upon Kevin as being paranoid and his extensive protection techniques as intrusive.

Whitney: "Well, you don't look like a bodyguard."

Kevin: "What'd you expect?"

Whitney: "Well, I don't know, maybe a tough guy?"

Kevin: "This is my disguise."

When Whitney goes shopping, he follows her and watch carefully whoever enters the fashion stores. She wants him to do more than just watching. She wants him to help, like a boyfriend or a personal assistant.

Whitney: "Will you grab that jacket for me? The red one, please?"

Kevin: "I'm here to keep you alive, not help you shop."

Kevin is not exactly what you call a gentleman. He is a "toughman". He is not afraid of dying for the people he protects. He is very professional. Usually, one are not afraid of dying for the people we love. This is very personal. Kevin is not personal; he is professional.

Whitney: "And you're ready to die for me?"

Kevin: "It's the job."

Whitney: "And you'd do it? Why?"

Kevin: "I can't sing."

It's written in his contract, it's the job. But Whitney cannot believe to die for someone can be part of a job. So, when Kevin told her he couldn't sing, she got it.

"The people who hire me, they don't have to be convinced to save their own lives."

It's what Kevin should have told her before she starts with her questions about dying for someone. Now she knows he can't sing, and it's embarrassing. She already knows he doesn't want to do her personal assistant, and he doesn't want to do her backing singer either.

At a concert where Whitney is performing, a riot breaks out and Kevin rescues her from danger. As a result, the two develop a closer relationship. Kevin tries to remain professional, but the two sleep together. However, recognizing that this compromises his ability to protect his client, Kevin breaks off their affair.

Kevin: "Aw, Christ, I told you why! I - I can't protect you like this."

Whitney: "So that's it for me? That's it?"

Kevin: "Yeah."

Whitney: "Well, I don't believe it!"

Kevin: "Well, you can live with it, or you can fire me."

Whitney: "But I can't fuck you."

What the fuck is she talking about!? They did fuck, they can't fuck anymore. They will fuck again when he stops working for her.

After the breaking up, she attempts to sleep with his former Secret Service colleague Greg. Kevin is following her everywhere, even when she is not aware of it. When she is back from her date, she learns he followed her and saw everything. She gets mad at him.

"But I can't go out on a date because you have to be with me every minute. I mean, what if he wants to invite me up to his place afterwards? Are you gonna come too?"

Yes, he will. It's written in his contract: never lose sight of your client. He already saw her naked when they fucked. What's wrong if he sees her again? Does it really matter if it's with another man? To Kevin it's ok as long as the guy she is with don't try to hurt her.

Kevin learns that Whitney's obsessive stalker and the person trying to kill her are not the same person. He learns the next day, from his Secret Service contacts, that they have apprehended the stalker. But there's one left to catch, the hitman. Finally he manages to kill him, but he is wounded. He recovers from the shooting and goes to say goodbye to Whitney at the airport. He tells her.

"I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

She fires him on the spot. From now on they can kiss and fuck as much as they want.

"So, goodnight Kevin. Whitney has something to tell you: "I Will Always Love You."
