A Love Supreme

A soft and gentle drum beat heralded my dawn,

A warm and welcome ocean, to which I would be drawn.

Your voice a pleasing melody, of honey, sweetened words,

That carried me on winds of love and soared like Hummingbirds.

When once I spied your loving gaze, and mine reflected too,

And childish fingers stretched and fell, like springtime morning dew.

You gripped me in a sacred bond, beyond our worldly scope,

I walked along life’s path with you, then stood bereft of hope.

When forced to watch you pass on by, and raindrops clouded sight,

My memories a beacon, when daytime succumbed to night.

Our souls once touched, entwined forever,

And love could never fail.

A yardstick that we measure by, in which all others pale,

When time grew short, and bells began their brief and final chime,

A mother’s love that sits supreme, a daughters love sublime.
