Giant (version 2)

As she was walking threw her section of the park, Airi thought further about the mysterious place called Teapot. Was it another country? Was it the name of some forest? or was it neither? She continually asked herself question after question whilst answering none of them, and she would have continued asking herself all these questions if not for the oversized lady bug that landed on her forehead which caused Airi to stop thinking and start running and waving her arms around like a maniac.

A few minutes after getting away getting away from the lady bugs Airi heard Yasmine voice from the walky-talky on her waist.

“What’s up Airi? I saw you running around like a maniac,” said Yasmine.

“I was being attack by a giant lady bug!” Shouted Airi.

“Really, how big was it?”

“As big as a strawberry.”

“I’ve seen bigger, don’t tell me such small insects scare you?”

“I wasn’t scared of it. I was just caught off guard.” Said Airi boldly.

Yasmine laughed at Airi’s false bravery. “If you’re so brave I dare you to follow my directions.”

“What directions?”

“First, I want to you head over to Serena’s side of the park.”

“You mean the western section?”

“That’s her section, isn’t it?”

“Why, what’s over there?

“It’s a secret. If you want to know you’ll have to go over there.”

“Is it insect related?”

“Why, are you scared?”

“That’s not it, I don’t think I should leave my area that’s all.”

“Don’t worry about it, I’ll keep watch over it for you, ok? Now get to moving goody two-shoes”

Airi didn’t respond, for she hated being called goody two shoes. Furthermore, she wasn’t sure if she should go or not. On the one hand, the section of the park she was put in charge of seemed peaceful and boring enough to sustain its self while she was away. However, on the other hand, she didn’t want to get in trouble by John (her boss).

“Don’t worry Goody-two shoes, John want get mad or anything like that. In fact, I doubt he would care if you only left for a couple of seconds. Besides don’t you want to see more of the mysteries this park has besides Byzantine? I know you curious to see stranger things.”

Yasmine’s words were very convincing to Airi. She knew that there was more to the park than what she’d shown by John and she wanted to explore its mystery’s further. “All right, I’ll go to Serena section. However, I’m not a Goody-two she’s so could you drop it.”

“Once you stop acting like a goody-two shoes I’ll stop calling you that,” replied Yasmine. “Anyway, the times good, go now.”

Airi went westward until she came to the single park road that separated the eastern part of the park from the western part of the park, she then quickly crossed it and continued straight until she heard from Yasmine again.

“That’s good Airi, just keep going straight until I tell you head in another direction.”

Airi did as she was commanded. She kept going straight until she was told otherwise. When Yasmine told her to go left, she went left and when she was told to go slightly right she went slightly right. They kept that up until Airi came to a narrow path that had thick clustered trees brilliantly illuminated by the sun on both sides.

“Am I to go down this path?” Asked Airi.

“Yes, go down the path,” said Yasmine.

Airi went down the path that lend slightly to the left until she blocked from going any further by long yellow tape (police tape) that ran horizontally from one tree to the one on the other side. The words ‘Do not enter without permission’ ran across the yellow tape in black bold letters.

“I can’t go any further Yasmine.” Said Airi

 Yasmine didn’t respond.

“Yasmine,” said Airi before yelling into the walky-talky two more times. “Yasmine…Yasmine.”

Because she was focusing on the walky-talky, Airi didn’t notice the figure that was sneaking up on her from behind. Grabbing Airi by both shoulders, Serena yelled, “Boo!”

Airi leaped forward towards the yellow tape before looking back at her co-worker. “You scared me Serena!”

Serena was too busy laughing to apologize right then. However, when she calmed down enough, she did just that. “I’m sorry Airi. I couldn’t resist.”

Airi took some time in catching her breath.

“Are you, all right?” Asked Serena.

“I think I’ll survive.”

“Do you want to go further?” Asked Serena.

“Further?”

“Yes, past the yellow tape into the restricted area.”

“Why is this a restricted area?”

“Not telling, it’s a secret you’ll have to find out yourself.”

“Well, it a restricted area so I shouldn’t go past.”

“Don’t worry goody to shoes, you have my permission to enter.”

“Don’t you start calling me that too.”

Serena apologist to Airi.

“I think I need Johns permission, don’t we?”

Serena laughed at her, before replying, “You only need his permission for the northern section. This is the western section, My section. The tape said you need permission to enter. You have my permission to enter; so, enter.”

“I don’t know if I should. I mean- “

“Just go in,” said Serena while pushing Airi towards the yellow tape.

Airi lifted the police tap slightly before going under onto the other side. Serena followed her.

“Keep going, Airi, there’s nothing to be afraid of in here,” said Serena from behind Airi.

Airi followed the path that edged slightly to the right instead of being a straight path. Serena followed close behind her, almost leaving no space between them. Everything seemed to have been normal for a couple of seconds before she turned the corner and saw an insect that was the size of a huge dog stand on the pathway (blocking it).

“What the heck is that!” yelled Airi whilst hoping backwards only to be caught by Serena.

“Don’t be scared Airi, it’s just a mantis,” said Serena with her arms around Airi’s waist.

“Are you blind? that’s not just a Mantis in front of us, it’s a giant mantis!”

“Wow, Airi I didn’t think you’ll fear a mere insect,” said Serena mockingly.

“Of course, I’m scared of that thing! It’s huge!”

“Isn’t Byzantine way scarier than a giant mantis or any such giant insect?”

Airi thought it over for a second before replying, “Byzantine is friendly. Is the giant mantis just as friendly?”

“Why don’t you go over and ask him?”

Air shook her head. “I’m not going near it.”

“I can get rid of it if only you promise not to run away.”

Airi promised she would stay still while Serena got rid of the giant Mantis. Serena let go of Airi and went for the Mantis. She fearlessly grabbed the mantis, lifted it up and throw it into the cluster of trees leaving the path open. “OK, let’s keep it moving!” said Serena.

Airi was speechless. She watched Serena pick up and throw a giant Mantis, so she was stunt.  Serena grabbed Airi’s hand and said, “Don’t worry, I’m a professional. You don’t have anything to fear but fear itself, but I’m here so fear can go screw itself.” She then walked Airi further along the path.

The route wasn’t too long, however, Airi had seen numerous giant insects while being led by Serena. She saw many giant versions of insects that you would usually see in the wild: Lady bugs, grass-hoppers and beetles. Once they reached the police tape on the other side of the pathway both went under and Serena finally let go of Airi’s hand meaning the journey was over.

 “So, how was it?”

“That was awesome! Every insect was bigger than I’ve ever seen!” shouted Airi.

 “Glad you enjoyed yourself.”

“How did those insects get so big!?”

“It’s because of Teapot.”

When Airi heard the name Teapot she became even more curious than she already had been. “Teapot,” she said calmly.

“The power of Teapot is all over this park. However, some areas, including this one, is more connected to that place which you will soon visit.”

“When shall I visit Teapot!” Shouted Airi.

“You can’t visit if you’re scared of giant insects, Airi.”

“I’m not afraid of them any longer,” said Airi confidently.

Serena grabbed Airi’s by the hand guided her back towards the yellow tape. “If you’re not scared let’s go again.”

Airi didn’t resist, she just built up her courage and followed behind Serena. “If this is what I must do to go to Teapot, I’ll just bare it,” she thought to herself as she was being led by Serena again.
