On July 8th 2017, my home was spared from the wall fire which occurred in Butte county California.

This poem is for all fire fighters.

The fire blazes

into an inferno,

hellish, so close to a bedroom

window.

But spared by a circle,

which is the meaning

of home and life itself,

we continue.

Empathy is found there,

that place where we lay

our heads to rest.

And in the end,

we are spared,

by a circle of caring,

that space of never alone.

They fight the fire,

all consuming,

and sometimes,

they have wings.
