Why?

While searching for a picture of tar to go with a poem, I came across an image that was so unbelievably horrifying that I had to follow it up and read the article that went with it.

Four puppies, deliberately covered in hot tar! They were left in the middle of a road during construction work in the city of Iasi in Moldavia. It was believed to have been a deliberate act of cruelty. All four were in a desperate state, and one had 80 per cent of it’s body covered, including it’s snout, one eye and it’s mouth. From what I could make out, all four did survive their horrific ordeal which occurred in September 2016, after under-going a lot of painful treatment.

Was this an isolated act of cruelty? From the images that popped up on a search just for the word ‘Tar’ it would certainly appear that it was not. So many pictures of tar-covered dogs.....I was too sickened to research any further.

I have to ask myself if there are any other species on the planet capable of displaying such abject cruelty as human beings apparently are. Sure, species hunts species and sometimes the following death is not instant, but animals deliberately inflicting cruelty on another...I don’t think so. And before someone mentions it, yes, there are dog fights, cock fights and various other similar occurrences; but again, who is behind them, setting them up? Humans, for their own entertainment!

I know it’s not pleasant, much nicer to look away and pretend it does not happen. But it does! And cruelty such as this makes me ashamed to be human at all.
