FELIPE

What are you thinking?

EMMA

I’m thinking, if I still smoked cigarettes I would have

smoked a carton since I spoke to my mother in Florida.

FELIPE

You smoked?

EMMA

When I was sixteen.  I stopped when I broke up with a

boy named Terence.

FELIPE
Terence, sounds like a scholar.

EMMA

No, he was a fool, so was I.  He smoked, drank, and stole

cars.  When I dumped him the wake-up call came.  Climb

up.  Be something.

FELIPE

Whatever happened to Terence?

EMMA

Six months later he was killed in an auto wreck, a stolen car.

FELIPE

An early exit.

EMMA
Yeah. . .Terence. . .

FELIPE

Sounds like he was pretty wild.  What did you see in him?

EMMA

He was beautiful, a handsome heartbreaker.  The most.

FELIPE

Still the most?

EMMA

Yes. . .

FELIPE

What about me?

EMMA

You’re a frog.

FELIPE

A frog?

EMMA

Yes, I’m sure of that, because I’ve kissed you several times

in this life and you haven’t changed.
