A photographer is a person who makes photographs. As in other arts, the definitions of amateur and professional are not entirely categorical. A professional photographer is likely to take photographs to make money, by salary or through the display, sale or use of those photographs. An amateur photographer may take photographs for pleasure and to record an event, emotion, place, as a person without a monetary motivation.

Emma is a professional photographer. She takes photographs for a living. She got "An Education" at the London School of Photography. She traveled throughout Europe and at some point, found herself "Alone in Berlin". There she met with "Peter's Friends" and she was no longer alone. She also went to Rome, where "In the Name of the Father", the son and the holy spirit, she was allowed into the Vatican to take pictures of the Pope himself. "The remains of the day" were dedicated to visit the main tourist attractions before going home.

Back in "Carrington" where her parents lived, she had "A Walk in the Woods" with "Effie Gray", an old friend from childhood. Her friend told her "The Legend of Barney Thomson" and "The Meyerowitz Stories". The woods were full of "Beautiful Creatures" like elves and dwarves. It was "Stranger than Fiction".

Emma was single. She experienced many love deceptions. She experienced many "Judas Kiss". "Love Actually", is very misleading. When she found out about the betrayal, she confronted her boyfriends. They all said the same. They never admitted their mistake.

"Maybe Baby"

She just decided to stop trusting men.

To "Treasure Planet" Earth is the most rewarding effort people could make to save it from global warming and contamination. The "Primary Colors" of the spring. Her "Sense and Sensibility" of the beauty of nature. The "Beauty and the Beast" like wolf, bear and fox running free in the wild, are worth saving, more than "Saving Mr. Banks" (a bank rescue package totalling some 500 billion was announced by the British government on 8 October 2008). For governments, banks are more important than wildlife, of course.

The myth of the fashion photographer as a straight man with a passion for beautiful women, with his camera as a powerful machine of seduction in 1966, was only a myth. Emma hated stereotypes. She became a female fashion photographer. Almost half-a-century later, a next generation of young female photographers are coming through. Emma was a pioneer, from the first generation of female photographers. After a few years working in the fashion industry, she got tired and left.

"A lot of very beautiful women can be a pain because all they're thinking about is how they look."

Models were just too superficial for her, and it made her feel sick.

Then she specialized in family events like wedding, birthday, baby shower... It was more rewarding than working in fashion. It was more real working with "real" and common people.

"What was important was trying to create something that families could watch together and enjoy together"

This job made her feel proud of herself. But it was always the same, and over the time she got bored. She needed a new challenge. That's when she decided to become a war photographer and traveled to Iraq.

In Iraq and Afghanistan she saw many broken families, broken lives. She witnessed the worst of humanity. She even got injured during a special mission that got ambushed by the talibans. She learned about human suffering. And this is what she said about this awful experience that is watching war from inside.

"Its unfortunate and I really wish I wouldn't have to say this, but I really like human beings who have suffered. They're kinder."

When she felt too depressed to keep going, watching people being killed, she went back home. By then, the main concern of humanity had moved toward global warming. She decided to take on this new challenge by contributing with her photographs to make people and governments aware of the magnitude of the consequences of this global threat. She traveled with a group of scientists to the Arctic as a member of the crew. She took pictures months apart to see how fast the ice melted. She made her own conclusion of the situation.

"Without the ice, the earth will fall"

As strange as it sounds, it's still a myth for some world leaders. Unless they lie because it's bad news for their business. Men of power often lie when there's lots of money at stake.

"So, goodnight Emma. What will be your next challenge? "The Children Act"?
