INT. LUNA'S BEDROOM, MORNING

LUNA is still in bed, the door opens and a maid with Grey eyes enters, she open's the curtains and sunlight illuminates the room. Luna pulls the covers over her head.

                                LUNA
                Go away, I'm sleeping.

The maid sighs and makes her way around the room, she pulls the covers off of Luna's bed, Luna jumps up in annoyance.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
                Damn it, are you deaf?

The maid folds the covers and looks nervously at Luna.

                                MAID
I apologize miss Luna, but your father requested you be woken up, and i really must wash these sheets.

Luna sigh's and slumps out of bed.

                                LUNA
Fine, whatever, just leave now please.

The maid nods in reply.

                                MAID
                Of course miss Luna.

Luna whispers under her breath

                                LUNA
The new ones are always a pain.

The maid leaves the room and closes the door. Luna goes into her private bathroom and begins running a shower. Afterwards the mirror is fogged with steam, she wipes it and we see her eyes, one dark brown and the opposite light green. There is then a knock at her door.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
                Who is it?

                                MAID
It's me miss Luna, may i enter?

Luna wraps herself in a bathrobe, she then opens the door and the maid enters holding a black dress.

                                MAID (CONT'D)
Today's outfit miss, as requested by your father.

                                LUNA
The darkest of colours for the darkest of days i guess, lay it on the bed please.

The maid lays the dress out, Luna rummages through her draws retrieving small items of clothing before picking up the dress and entering into her bathroom.

                                MAID
I'm sorry for your loss, miss Luna.

                                LUNA
It means more to my father than me, i barely knew the woman, she was a family friend but i was never close with her. Considering her class I'm surprised she's getting this much attention, she was an amber eye after all.

Luna enters back into the bedroom with the dress on but unzipped at the back, the maid zips up the dress and brushes Luna's hair.

                                MAID
Well i guess a person's eye colour doesn't always have to represent someone.

                                LUNA
HA! You really haven't been in this city long have you?

The maid shakes her head slightly as she picks up several small pieces of jewelry.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
Then i will go easy on you.

                                MAID
If i may ask miss Luna, why does your father keep such a law in place? What is there to gain from it?

                                LUNA
I wish i knew, all i know is that the Eye Colour Class Act has been in place even before i was born, it separates us all into different levels of social class within society. From the most common being brown eyes up to the rarest being green eyes, we are separated from one another, the poor from the wealthy, the good from the bad. Unfortunately for someone like you this is as good it gets in the way of a decent job.

The maid finishes helping Luna dress.

                                MAID
To work among such high class people is sort of glamorous, it's not all bad.

                                LUNA
You say that now but your view will change, trust me, you wont be alone in your struggle to stand out among the crowd.

Luna walks over to the window and peers outside, down below can be seen several well dressed people hugging and consoling one another.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
I'm both deemed above and below you or anyone else here, all because of my colours. I don't know who put this law into place, but i hope they are proud of it, because we are all stuck with it now. I guess i should thank my father for actually choosing to keep me here, but yet all i know is here, these damn concrete walls and pompous people never change.

Luna thumps her hand against the wall, the maid steps forward to consul her.

                                MAID
Miss Luna, come on, lets get you some fresh air, try and clear your head. Your father is expecting you after all.

Luna takes a deep breath and calms down.

                                LUNA
                What's your name?

                                MAID
My name is CYNTHIA miss Luna.

                                LUNA
Then welcome to your new life Cynthia, i hope you made the right choice, because i still wonder if my father did.

Luna and Cynthia leave the room and make their way to the courtyard.

EXT. COURTYARD, DAY

Small groups of well dressed individual's with green eyes are dotted throughout the courtyard, straight ahead in view is Luna's father ALISTAIR and her aunt KAREN. Luna slowly approaches them with Cynthia by her side.

                                ALISTAIR
Ah, good morning dear, i see you met Cynthia

Luna stands next to her father, neglecting to look at her aunt.

                                LUNA
Good morning father, and yes she has been very helpful.

                                KAREN
Hm, you haven't changed much have you Luna? Still avoiding me with those tainted eyes of yours i see.

Luna then glares back at Karen.

                                LUNA
I suppose i should avoid you altogether then, less i become a stuck up bitch like you.

Karen steps forward and raises her hand flat.

                                KAREN
                Why you insolent little...

Alistair places a hand on Karen's shoulder and leans in to whisper.

                                ALISTAIR
Not here, not today, we are all in a state of grieving so calm yourself.

Karen lowers her hand and locks eyes with Luna.

                                KAREN
                Watch your mouth in future.

Karen then walks away to socialize with others, Alistair turns his attention to Luna.

                                ALISTAIR
A minute, less than a minute at that and you already begin running your mouth.

Luna prepares to speak but is interrupted.

                                ALISTAIR (CONT'D)
You will only speak when spoken too, is that clear? Not another rebellious word.

Luna nods in reply, turning her gaze to the ground.

                                LUNA
                Yes father.

Alistair then places a hand against her back and leads her through the crowd.

                                ALISTAIR
Come along, its time we get going, the service is starting soon.

EXT. CITY STREETS, DAY

Luna and her father sit in the back seat of a car on their way to the funeral service, she looks out the window and see's crowded streets, shops, businesses and signs detailing specific eye colours allowed only.

EXT. FUNERAL SERVICE, DAY

Many people are seated overlooking a coffin and a large photo of the deceased, some are crying while others are containing themselves as they listen to the priests kind words. Luna is seated among them with her father, Alistair then begins coughing and pulls a tissue from his pocket to cover his mouth. Small droplets of blood can be seen on the tissue.

                                PRIEST
As we commend her back into gods loving arms, let us bow our heads in silence and remember everything she gave in life.

Everyone bows their heads while Luna remains upright, her father whispers.

                                ALISTAIR
                Bow your head, now!

Luna resists for a second longer before giving in. The coffin is lowered and everyone begins to socialize and consul one another once again.

                                KAREN
Don't have much respect for the dead do you?

                                LUNA
I have respect, just only for those who show it in return.

Alistair begins coughing again, worse than previously but gains self control again.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
                Father, are you OK?

Luna steps forward and places a hand on his arm out of concern.

                                ALISTAIR
I, I'm fine, just a simple cough, nothing too worry over.

Alistair's cough continues suddenly and karen steps by his side

                                KAREN
We need to get you home Alistair, you are not well.

Karen helps Alistair walk back to his car and then approaches Luna.

                                KAREN (CONT'D)
Come on, we are leaving, your father needs to rest.

                                LUNA
Are make my own way home.

Karen then reaches for Luna's arm but she pulls away

                                KAREN
What are you, a child? Now come on.

                                LUNA
Well I'm sorry if i don't want to return my prison just yet warden, but I'm staying, i will make my own way back.

Luna walks away and Karen gives up out of frustration and returns to the car. Luna looks among the crowd of people and notices a boy around the same age as her, making eye contact the boy makes his way over.

                                BOY
Hi there, you looked a little lonely on your own away from the crowd.

                                LUNA
Well peace and quiet is hard to come by when your surrounded by these people.

The boy chuckles and stretches out his hand.

                                BOY
Yeah don't i know it, my name is LUCAS by the way.

The two shake hands.

                                LUNA
My name is Luna, how do you know the deceased?

                                LUCAS
Honestly i didn't, i was dragged here by my parents, what about you?

                                LUNA
Same deal really. Do you maybe wanna take a walk, get away from them for a bit?

                                LUCAS
I thought you would never ask.

The two of them walk around the cemetery before sitting on a near by bench. Lucas stares into Luna's eyes.

                                LUNA
What? What are looking at? Because your gonna creep me out eventually if you carry on.

                                LUCAS
Your eyes, they're a really interesting combination of colours.

                                LUNA
Hm, more like unlucky, inside my home everyone is forced to treat me with respect because of my heritage, but the moment i set foot in the streets without his company, i might as well be dog shit on the underside of someone's shoe.

                                LUCAS
Heh, I guess I'm not alone then.

Luna stares in confusion, noticing that Lucas's eyes are most definitely green.

                                LUNA
What are you talking about? You look fine to me.

Lucas then leans forward and removes two contact lenses, Luna jumps in shock slightly.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
Your eyes, their blue? But coloured contacts are illegal.

                                LUCAS
Yeah i know, but its the only way i can hide it, my parents have kept it a secret from everyone and make me wear them, they are strict but they have a good heart.

Luna is fixated on Lucas's eyes.

                                LUCAS (CONT'D)
Ok, now you're the creepy one.

Lucas chuckles as Luna hits him lightly.

                                LUNA
Shut up, i like the colour blue okay, sue me.

                                LUCAS
Well i guess we are the two unluckiest bastards or in your case bitch, around hey?

Luna raises an eye brow back in reply.

                                LUNA
You really have a way with words don't you?

Lucas smirks and shrugs his shoulders,

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
Well in any case, I'd drink too that, if i had one.

                                LUCAS
Being sixteen can be a bitch sometimes.

Lucas puts his green contacts back in.

                                LUNA
This may be out of the blue but, would you maybe wanna come over for dinner tonight? It would be nice to have someone else to talk to rather than dead silence, and my aunt's constant judging.

Lucas smiles.

                                LUCAS
Yeah sure, sounds like it could be fun, she's not gonna judge me too is she?

Lucas chuckles as the two stand up.

                                LUNA
                No promises.

The two then make their way out of the cemetery and walk through the city.

EXT. CITY STREETS, MID DAY

The street is filled with various people of different eye colours and dress style from casual to formal. A newspaper stand is advertising the latest news, the headline reads ''Open your eye's, the words of the rebellious''.

                                LUNA
''Open your eye's'' if only it were that simple.

Lucas stops and buys a newspaper, they continue walking as he skims through it.

                                LUCAS
I guess some people still stand against your father and the cities rule, how do you feel about it?

Luna hesitates.

                                LUNA
I'm not sure really, i mean i agree with it, because why should we be forced to live this way? But on the other hand, one has to wonder what such a small voice can do against a city.

                                LUCAS
Well they are brave enough to shout out, so why shouldn't anyone listen too them?

Lucas continues flicking through the pages.

                                LUNA
Because everyone is deaf, because they have become so comfortable with this lifestyle that they don't want it to change, others enjoy having superiority over one another.

                                LUCAS
Well have you ever spoken to your father about this? I mean he is the mayor after all, his word is law within the city.

Luna nervously rubs her arm and shy's away.

                                LUNA
It's not that simple, he's my father, i can't stand up to him so easily.

                                LUCAS
Well maybe you should, or at least someone should.

                                LUNA
                Oh really, like you perhaps?

Luna giggles lightly.

                                LUCAS
Well I'm not afraid, after all it might make for an interesting topic at dinner.

Luna stops Lucas in place.

                                LUNA
Lucas, a joke is joke but he is my father so please don't anger him, i think he is sick and i don't want anything bad to happen tonight, so promise you wont do anything stupid.

Lucas hesitates for a moment and sighs.

                                LUCAS
                Okay, i promise.

Lucas rolls his eyes.

                                LUNA
Thank you. Now lets carry on, we aren't far now.

Lucas continues to flick through the news pages, he comes across an article titled ''Faceless citizens''.

                                LUCAS
Hey you ever here about this place?

Lucas leans the article in Luna's direction.

                                LUNA
Oh wow, that's kinda creepy don't you think? I would hate to grow up their.

                                LUCAS
Yeah apparently everyone wears masks when they are born, i wonder why?

                                LUNA
We live in a strange world after all, we aren't the only city with strange and obscure rules to live by. Makes you wonder what else is out there doesn't it?

                                LUCAS
If it's as creepy as walking mannequins then i think will stay put thanks.

Lucas folds up the newspaper and the two continue walking until they arrive at Luna's home.

INT. LUNA'S HOUSE, MIDDAY

The duo is greeted by a house maid and they settle in. The house is large and high class, with chandeliers hanging over head and many well sculptured pieces of art. Cynthia passes by.

                                CYNTHIA
Oh hello miss Luna, your father has been expecting you, dinner has been scheduled earlier than usual today. Will your friend be attending as well?

                                LUNA
                Yes Cynthia, this is lucas.

Lucas waves his hand slightly.

                                LUCAS
Erm, hi, its nice to meet you.

                                CYNTHIA
The pleasure is mine Mister Lucas, i will inform your father miss Luna.

Cynthia bows her head lightly and leaves.

                                LUNA
Thank you Cynthia. Come on then, time to meet the family i guess.

Lucas steps forward slowly.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
Don't tell me you've got cold feet all of a sudden?

                                LUCAS
No, no I'm fine. It's a little chilly in here, that's all.

Luna rolls her eyes.

                                LUNA
                If you say so.

The two enter the dinning room and take their seats on either side of a large well decorated table. Luna's father and aunt enter the room. Alistair is relying on a cane for extra support.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
                Hello father

Alistair ignores Luna and focuses on Lucas.

                                ALISTAIR
                Who is this boy?

He points at Lucas with his cane.

                                LUCAS
My name is Lucas sir, i attended the funeral today with my parents, they were good friends with Maria.

Alistair takes his seat and Karen is seated next to him.

                                ALISTAIR
Very well, welcome to my home Lucas.

Lucas nods in reply.

                                LUCAS
Thank you sir, its quite an honor really.

Several servants enter the room carrying several plates of food and set the table for the meal. Everyone begins to eat.

                                LUCAS (CONT'D)
The food is delicious Mister Alistair.

AListair pays no attention.

                                ALISTAIR
That's what chefs are for boy, you should be thanking them.

Lucas rolls his eyes nervously at Luna, she shrugs her shoulders in reply.

                                LUNA
The service was nice, don't you think father?

                                ALISTAIR
Yes it was, her family made sure of it.

Karen grips a glass of wine.

                                KAREN
I'm surprised you noticed Luna, i didn't think you would care.

                                LUNA
I appreciate people's effort and care to one another, something you never learned i see.

Karen stares at Luna angry and provoked, opening her mouth to speak.

                                ALISTAIR
                Enough, both of you.

Alistair points at Luna.

                                ALISTAIR (CONT'D)
                Eat your food.

The room falls silent as they continue to eat.

                                LUCAS
So, are we having desert by any chance?

                                ALISTAIR
The chef is preparing some sort of treat, afterwards we will see you out.

Everyone finishes their food and the servants enter to clear the table. A servant picks up Lucas's plate but knocks a glass of water soaking his blazer.

                                SERVANT
Oh my gosh, i am so sorry.

                                LUCAS
No don't worry about it, its fine.

The servant cleans up the mess.

                                ALISTAIR
Damn clumsy girl, my apologies boy, allow me to offer your blazer to be dried for you.

The servant tries to remove Lucas's blazer but he refuses.

                                LUCAS
No, no honestly its fine, it will dry on its own.

                                KAREN
It's rude to ignore your hosts generosity.

Reluctantly Lucas removes his blazer and the servant folds it over her arm.

                                ALISTAIR
See that it is dried and returned to him promptly.

                                SERVANT
                Of course Mister Alistair.

The servant bows slightly and walks away. Suddenly a small white box object falls from the blazer.

                                LUCAS
Oh that's mine, must a fell out of the pocket.

Lucas reaches to pick it up.

                                ALISTAIR
What is it? I hope its not damaged in anyway.

Lucas grips hold of it and tries to conceal it.

                                LUCAS
Oh it's fine, just a personal item that's all.

Alistair hesitates, watching Lucas intently.

                                ALISTAIR
                I see.

Alistair motions the servant to come forward, they whisper to one another.

                                ALISTAIR
I must insist i see this ''personal item'' of yours.

Lucas gulps.

                                LUNA
It's nothing father, your being superstitious.

Luna chuckles nervously.

                                KAREN
Then he should have no problem showing it to us, then should he?

                                ALISTAIR
I won't ask again boy, now show me what you have.

All eyes are on Lucas. Lucas sighs.

                                LUCAS
                Okay fine, here.

Lucas slides the object across the table towards Alistair. He picks it up and inspects it, before suddenly slamming it on the table.

                                ALISTAIR
                Your colour?

Lucas remains silent.

                                ALISTAIR (CONT'D)
                What is your colour!?

                                LUNA
                Father please.

Luna stands from her chair but is pushed aside.

                                LUCAS
Blue okay, i wear contacts just to be able to stand out in this world you created, just to be able to stand alongside my own mother and father.

Alistair stamps his cane.

                                KAREN
So this is why you stayed out there, to find another way to disappoint your family, such a child.

                                LUNA
You have nothing to do with this so stay out of it. Father i met him and he seemed really nice, i knew of his colour but that shouldn't define him, it shouldn't define anyone.

Alistair grips Luna's arm.

                                ALISTAIR
How dare you, i have kept you safe and held you up alongside the rest of us, laws are in place for a reason and we must follow them.

Lucas stands from his seat.

                                LUCAS
Well maybe they're wrong, maybe you're wrong about all this, you need to open your eyes.

Alistair stands from his seat and walks round the table to Lucas.

                                ALISTAIR
You dare speak such rebellious dribble in my home, your parents should be ashamed for raising you with such a tongue.

                                LUCAS
At least they know how to raise a child in this screwed up world you rule.

Alistair raises his cane but Luna grabs hold of it mid swing.

                                LUNA
                Father please, stop this.

Luna is struck by Alistair and falls to the floor.

                                LUCAS
                Luna! You monster.

Lucas pushes Alistair against the table, he helps Luna to her feet.

                                ALISTAIR
Enough of this, i will see you thrown in jail for laying a hand on me boy.

Alistair points to Luna.

                                ALISTAIR (CONT'D)
And you, you are a disgrace, i have had enough of your rebellious ways so i invite you to see the world as you should, the way i protected you from.

Luna steps forward.

                                LUNA
                But father?

                                ALISTAIR
Get out, get out of my home, you aren't welcome here.

Tears swell in Luna's eyes as she flees from the dinning room to her bedroom, Lucas reaches a hand out for her but is pulled back by Alistair.

                                ALISTAIR (CONT'D)
As i said, i will see you pay for laying a hand on the mayor of the city.

INT. LUNA'S BEDROOM, EVENING

Luna is sitting on her bed in tears, Cynthia enters.

                                CYNTHIA
                Miss Luna?

Luna wipes away her tears.

                                LUNA
What do you want? Did father send you?

                                CYNTHIA
I'm afraid to say he did miss, I've been instructed to help gather your things.

Luna stands up straight.

                                LUNA
What's the point? If he want's me out then i want no reminder of his possessions.

Luna grabs several items of clothing and enters her bathroom to change.

                                CYNTHIA
Feels like deja vu doesn't it from this morning? Miss Luna i am...

Cynthia is interrupted.

                                LUNA
It's just Luna, their is no need for such titles Cynthia.

                                CYNTHIA
Luna, what will you do? Where will you go?

Luna enters back into her room fully clothed gripping her black dress.

                                LUNA
Anywhere from here, its about time too, maybe i can actually have some breathing room. But...

Luna throws the dress onto the bed as she stops abruptly.

                                CYNTHIA
                But?

Luna sighs.

                                LUNA
But, it is still my fault for bringing Lucas here, now his secret is out and he assaulted my father.

Cynthia steps forward to consul Luna.

                                CYNTHIA
You can not blame yourself for everything Luna, he stood up for himself and you earlier, and that takes courage. You do not belong here, you do not deserve to be treated in such a way, and maybe one day your father will learn to embrace the beautiful creation you are.

Luna smiles.

                                LUNA
                Thank you Cynthia.

There is knock on Luna's bedroom door, standing in the doorway is Karen.

                                KAREN
                Feeding her lies i see.

Karen enters the room, Luna glares at her.

                                LUNA
                Now what do you want?

                                KAREN
I came to make sure you were leaving, because you wont be coming back.

Luna stands before Karen still glaring.

                                LUNA
Tell me why, why do you hate me so much, why have you always persisted to mock me and tear me down?

                                KAREN
It is because you never belonged here, your eyes spark a fire in me, the thought of you even looking in my direction makes me want to vomit. Their are rules we must follow here, they were put into place long ago and they are held up to the full extent of your father's hand, but yet here you stand. You are the hole in the fabric of our society, the outcast, you are the best and worst of us all. You don't belong anywhere, yet you exist, we were all raised and molded by this city, we were separated from others so that we may continue this tradition we must live by, so why should you be allowed to be any different? Why should you be given respect and luxury over others, if you do not truly deserve it nor appreciate it? Your eyes reflect the lowest and highest of our society, but now you will experience it first hand, don't come back Luna, find your own way.

Karen leaves the room, Luna remains silent.

                                CYNTHIA
                Luna?

                                LUNA
                Goodbye Cynthia, take care.

Luna leaves the room and makes her way through the house to the front door, the servants stare and quietly whisper to one another. Luna passes by the dinning room, her father and aunt Karen are still seated, Alistair coughs continuously into a tissue, Karen glares over at Luna. Luna takes a last look and leaves the house.

EXT. CITY STREETS, NIGHT

The moon is high in sky as Luna wonders through the streets, many shops are closed for the day and few people are passing by. She notices a crowd of people lined up outside a neon lit building, a large man stands guard as a young woman with hazel eyes tries to enter.

                                BOUNCER
I'm sorry you are not allowed in here, blue or higher only.

                                YOUNG WOMAN
Oh that's bullshit, my friends are in their waiting for me, now come on let me in.

The bouncer pushes her aside.

                                BOUNCER
You need step aside, i have already told you, you are not getting in, now move along.

The young woman leaves in a huff and heads in Luna's direction, she passes by.

                                LUNA
That wasn't fair you know, how he treated you.

The young woman stops and turns to face Luna.

                                YOUNG WOMAN
It's the world we live in after all, full of pricks who think colour make's a person.

The young woman looks at Luna, observing her.

                                YOUNG WOMAN (CONT'D)
Aren't you a little young to be on the streets at this time?

Luna looks away slightly.

                                LUNA
I, I've been disowned by my family, literally today.

The young woman walks closer.

                                YOUNG WOMAN
Shit that's harsh, how come? You piss off the wrong guy?

Luna looks up at the woman, she stares at her eye to eye.

                                LUNA
                Look closer.

The young woman leans in to see better in the darkness.

                                YOUNG WOMAN
Your eyes, their dual coloured. Shit your her aren't you, the mayor's daughter.

Luna nods in reply.

                                YOUNG WOMAN (CONT'D)
Then what happened? Shouldn't you be living it up in luxury.

Luna shrugs her shoulders.

                                LUNA
                It's a bit of story.

The young woman motions her hand to hand to follow.

                                YOUNG WOMAN
You can tell me on the way, you can't be left on your own around here, especially at night. And by the way, my name is SARAH.

Sarah turns around and walks.

                                LUNA
                I'm Luna.

The two walk through the streets to Sarah's home, Luna explains her story on the way.

INT. SARAH'S APARTMENT, NIGHT

The room illuminates as they enter. The living room and kitchen are combined, the room is very clean and neat, the blinds are open with an overlook of the city.

                                SARAH
Home sweet home, whats mine is yours.

Luna slowly walks around the room inspecting the new environment, Sarah darts in and out of rooms carrying blankets and pillows.

                                LUNA
Please you don't have to go to so much effort.

Sarah enters into the living room.

                                SARAH
Nonsense, hospitality is always given to those who deserve it in need.

Sarah starts making up a bed on the sofa.

                                LUNA
If only the rest of the city shared the same mind as you, then maybe they might open their eyes.

                                SARAH
Oh you seen that message too, catchy isn't it.

Sarah finishes making a bed for Luna, she makes her way to the kitchen to fill a glass of water.

                                LUNA
Well it's also true, but no one listens.

                                SARAH
Actions speak louder than words, it's what people do for one another which truly shows something, maybe in time your father will see our work.

Luna appears confused.

                                LUNA
                Your work?

Sarah grins.

                                SARAH
Who do you think came up that slogan?

                                LUNA
                You started it then?

Sarah nods.

                                SARAH
Yep, me and a friend of mine started spreading that message, thought it might get the city talking a bit and sure enough it did.

                                LUNA
This is quite a coincidence, but what makes you think my father would have listened?

Sarah sits in the living room with Luna.

                                SARAH
Like i said actions speak louder than words, we have been trying to make people understand the difference, that our colours do not define us nor do they confine us from one another.

                                LUNA
You truly do have a good heart, at least someone see's sense in this damn city.

                                SARAH
I can't imagine living sheltered was much fun either. But that is what we aim to change, and maybe you might be able to help.

Luna hesitates for a moment.

                                LUNA
But how? What could i even do?

Sarah takes special notice of Luna's eyes.

                                SARAH
You could be the perfect inspiration to all those people out their, you are the literal bridge between the low and the high, you aren't an outcast Luna, you could be a leader.

Luna is taken by surprise and she thinks it over.

                                LUNA
But how? How would we do anything if people aren't willing to listen.

                                SARAH
How about i make you a deal, you help us in this cause, and i will provide you a place to live with me here. It's a lot to ask i know, but to be honest you don't have much other opportunity out their unless things change.

                                LUNA
                Okay, where do we start?

Sarah smiles as she stands up.

                                SARAH
We start with a goodnight sleep, then we can start making a difference, no matter how small.

The two of them get ready for bed, Luna settles in to her makeshift bed and falls asleep.

INT. SARAH'S APARTMENT, MORNING

The sunlight shines brightly through the blinds, Luna is woken up by the sound and smell of breakfast being cooked. She slowly sits up on the sofa and see's Sarah in the kitchen.

                                SARAH
                Morning, sleep well?

Sarah prepares a plate of breakfast consisting of bacon and eggs and brings it over to Luna.

                                LUNA
Yes thank you, and thank you for the food too, it looks delicious.

Sarah smiles.

                                SARAH
Tastes as good as it looks too.

The two eat their breakfast as they talk.

                                LUNA
So you said that today we were gonna start making some sort of difference, right?

                                SARAH
Of course, and we will, and your eyes are the first thing to start us off.

Luna stops eating abruptly.

                                LUNA
My eyes? What do you mean?

                                SARAH
As well as helping those in need and spreading our message through them, we need to send it across the city, we need people to notice us. I had an idea for which requires you, your eyes will help inspire the message.

                                LUNA
At this point i am willing to help in anyway i can.

                                SARAH
That's what i like to hear, now finish up and we will head out.

The two of them finish their food and leave the flat.

EXT. CITY STREETS, DAY - MOMENTS LATER

The two of them are walking through the crowded streets as they talk, they pass many shops and tall buildings along their way.

                                LUNA
So where are we headed first Sarah?

                                SARAH
We are gonna see a friend of mine, hes gonna create our new pièce de résistance.

INT. SMALL OFFICE BUILDING, DAY

They enter into a small building, eventually coming to a office room filled with posters and slogans, the base of operations. A man is sitting working at a desk, he then looks up.

                                MAN
Sarah, didn't expect to see you so early, who is this?

The man stands from his desk and greets them both.

                                SARAH
Hey CHARLIE, this is Luna, she is gonna become our newest member and spokesperson so to say.

Luna nervously raises a waved hand.

                                LUNA
                Hi.

Charlie notices her eyes.

                                CHARLIE
Oh my gosh, your Luna, the mayors daughter. What, what are you doing here?

                                LUNA
It's a long story, but Sarah thinks i can help and i want to try and do all i can.

Charlie nods and smiles.

                                CHARLIE
Well welcome aboard our little operation. So Sarah, what did you have in mind this time?

                                SARAH
Are explain during the process, get your camera, we have work to do.

INT. PHOTO SHOOT ROOM, DAY

Luna is seated on a chair in front of a white background as Charlie takes pictures with Sarah directing him.

INT. SMALL OFFICE BUILDING, DAY - SOMETIME LATER

The posters are in the process of printing, the image consists of a close up of Luna's face, her eyes facing directly at the audience with over laid text reading ''Bridge the gap''.

                                SARAH
Next step, you get these all over the city okay Charlie?

Charlie stacks the posters.

                                CHARLIE
Can do, what's next for you two?

                                SARAH
It's time to get out and explore, we gotta wake these people, one person at a time.

EXT. CITY STREETS, DAY - MOMENTS LATER

The two then take to the streets, we go through a montage of posters be passed around to citizens, Luna and Sarah talking and helping others less fortunate because of their eye colours. This period of time spans over several days, we see Karen walking down the street when she notices the poster with Luna's image on it inspiring rebellion within the city, she tears it down and carries it with her.

INT. LUNA'S HOUSE, MIDDAY

Karen enters her home and makes her way to Alistair's study, Alistair is kept out of frame during the conversation. Karen place's the poster in front of him.

                                KAREN
It would seem that brat, is still tearing a hole in our society.

Alistair's shaky hand reaches out and drags the poster closer.

                                KAREN (CONT'D)
What do you plan to do about this? We can't let her carry on, she's already made a name out there for herself and if she carries on, who knows what damage she will cause.

AListair clears his throat.

                                ALISTAIR
Send a search party out, i want her brought home this instant.

Alistair begins coughing violently again. A nurse suddenly enters the room to help him.

                                KAREN
                How is he doing?

                                NURSE
                Not well I'm afraid, he's...

The nurse and Karen suddenly gasp.

                                ALISTAIR
What? What is it, what's wrong?

Karen slowly lifts a hand mirror to his face, Alistair shouts in anger.

EXT. CITY STREETS, DAY - THE NEXT DAY

Luna and Sarah are continuing to hand out posters and messages. A black vehicle pulls up nearby and a man steps out, he then approaches Luna.

                                SARAH
Well he doesn't look suspicious at all does he?

                                BLACK SUIT MAN
Miss Luna, I've been requested by your father to bring you home.

Sarah steps out in front.

                                SARAH
Like hell you are, i look after her now, so why don't you get back in your fancy car and leave her alone.

Luna pulls Sarah back slightly.

                                LUNA
Sarah please. What does my father want?

The man sighs.

                                BLACK SUIT MAN
He requests you return home, and to be frank, he's very sick. It's in your best interest to at least hear what he has to say, please Miss Luna, come home.

                                SARAH
Luna you can't seriously think of going back there right? How they treated you, you really want to return to that?

Luna hesitates as she thinks it over.

                                LUNA
Sarah you've done so much for me already and i appreciate it, but, this is something i need to do. You said it yourself, maybe one day my father would take notice, and he has, maybe this our best shot to end all this. I need to see him, especially if he is sick, even after everything he is still my father.

Sarah sighs and leans in to hug Luna.

                                SARAH
Okay Luna, i understand, you give him hell for me OK?

Luna hugs Sarah.

                                LUNA
                I will, i promise.

Luna and Sarah separate as she then makes her way to the vehicle, she is driven home, along the way seeing many protesters and posters scattered throughout the streets, chanting ''open your eye's''. They arrive home and Luna is escorted inside.

INT. LUNA'S HOUSE, MIDDAY

Upon entering Luna is met by the glaring gaze of Karen from the top of the stairs, she slowly makes her way down.

                                KAREN
                Look who came back.

The man closes the door behind them.

                                LUNA
I didn't have much choice, a private escort after all, now where is father?

                                KAREN
You've been awfully busy haven't you? Starting protests, becoming a poster child, spreading rebellious messages.

Luna turns and walks away.

                                LUNA
I don't have time to waste on you, I'm here to see father, now where is he?

Karen narrows her eyes.

                                KAREN
In his study, resting, the illness has taken a bigger effect on him than we anticipated.

Luna quickly makes her way to the study, outside the door stands Cynthia.

                                LUNA
                Cynthia?

                                CYNTHIA
                Luna? You're back.

Cynthia smiles as Luna approaches.

                                LUNA
How is he? Do they know what's wrong?

Cynthia looks away slightly.

                                CYNTHIA
It's ''Wilson disease'' they say, it occurs from a build up of copper in certain areas of the body, it causes many symptoms and pains and can be fatal if not treated. Your father is quite weak, but he is also in need, don't be shocked when you see his eyes though Luna.

Luna places a hand on the door ready to enter.

                                LUNA
                His eyes?

Cynthia nods in reply, she then knocks on the door three times.

                                ALISTAIR
                Yes, who is it?

                                CYNTHIA
It's me, Cynthia Mister Alistair, your daughter Luna is here.

                                ALISTAIR
                Send her in.

Luna pulls the handle down and slowly steps into the room, Alistair is seated at his desk with his head pointed down signing documents.

                                LUNA
                Hello father.

                                ALISTAIR
Welcome home dear, i see you have been busy out there, especially in such a short time, it's quite impressive really.

                                LUNA
Thank you father, but why have you requested me home? I heard about your illness, I'm very sorry.

Alistair continues to scribble away.

                                ALISTAIR
Yes well, i requested you home because we need to talk, because this is your home.

                                LUNA
That's not what you said last time, you brought me back to silence me.

Alistair clears his throat, Luna folds her arms.

                                ALISTAIR
I brought you home, because you don't belong out there and you know it, i am your father and i must watch over you.

                                LUNA
Watch? You mean confine, silence, so that you can bring order back to the city.

Alistair slams his fist on the table, Luna jumps in surprise.

                                ALISTAIR
I can't bring order again, don't you get it, no one is going to listen to me anymore when they see me.

Alistair looks Luna in the eye, she gasps.

                                LUNA
                Your eyes? They're turning brown.

Alistair's eyes remain green but now a brown ring has appeared on the outer edge of the cornea.

                                ALISTAIR
This damn disease has destroyed me, and in time it will destroy my reputation, our family will be shunned.

Luna holds a stern face.

                                LUNA
                Karma.

                                ALISTAIR
                What did you say?

                                LUNA
Don't you see? This is karma for your actions, for keeping this law in place and embracing it, it's not right father. I have been out there and experienced it first hand, i have helped those in need, i have witnessed and listened to stories of families torn apart because of their views inspired by you. And it can't go on any longer, you need to end this, please.

Karen abruptly enters the room.

                                KAREN
You can't be serious, Alistair you can't listen to her, all you need to do is sign the leadership over to me and everything can go back to normal.

Luna steps in front.

                                LUNA
Father please, if you love me as a daughter then you will listen to me, this isn't right and you know it. You're the only one who can end this, so please do the right thing for once in your life, make amends.

Karen raises a hand.

                                KAREN
You insolent brat, enough of your dribble.

Alistair stomps his cane.

                                ALISTAIR
Karen! Leave my presence at once, this discussion does not involve you.

                                KAREN
                But Alistair?

                                ALISTAIR
                Now!

Alistair coughs slightly, Karen lowers her hand and reluctantly leaves the room.

                                LUNA
Father, what colour eyes did mother have? You always told me they were green but yet you never showed me a picture of her.

Alistair smiles as he reaches into a desk draw and pulls out a framed picture, the picture shows their wedding day.

                                ALISTAIR
In truth, her eyes were beautiful, they were brown, and you look just like her.

He hand's the picture to Luna.

                                LUNA
                Did she hide them?

                                ALISTAIR
Only from others, but in my presence i could never look away.

Luna places the picture on the desk.

                                LUNA
Father, i have learned a lot over this past week, and I'm asking you one last time, will you end this?

Alistair hesitates.

                                ALISTAIR
I will, your mother never wanted things this way, and if she were here now she would have knocked some sense into me years ago. We will end this together, your the voice of this city now after all.

Luna smiles with joy.

                                LUNA
                Thank you father.

The two reconcile.

EXT. CITY STREETS, DAY - THE NEXT DAY

Alistair is seated before a crowd of people, many cameras are positioned broadcasting live across the city, Luna is stood upfront addressing the crowd.

                                LUNA
On behalf of my father, i would like to thank you all for coming and also those listening at home. I stand before you all to address the issue that has plagued the city for many years, our colours. First i ask you to question yourselves, when you look at one another what do you see? Do you see colour or do you see a man, a woman, a child?

Citizens of various eye colours watch the live broadcast from their homes, streets and other building environments throughout the speech.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
I have walked among you all, i have faced ridicule, i have struggled to find my place. But i promise you all here and now that we can end all of it, we can look towards a brighter future. That's why as of today my father will be stepping down as mayor of the city, he has fallen greatly ill and is not fit to continue, but in his final days of occupancy the Eye Colour Class Act will become null and void.

The crowd begins to clap and cheer.

                                LUNA (CONT'D)
The city will be free to live as we should, no loner will we be separated, no longer will anyone struggle, it's a new day for us all. Thank you for listening, we march as one to a new future.

Luna steps down and is seated by her father, reporters spread the news of today's events and the citizens rejoice. Luna notices Lucas among the crowd, she smiles and stands up but turns back to her father.

                                ALISTAIR
Go ahead, give him my apologies as well.

Alistair nudges her forward slightly.

                                LUNA
                Thank you father.

Luna leans in and hugs Alistair, she then makes her way over to Lucas and taps him on the shoulder.

                                LUCAS
Luna? Hey, that was quite a speech you gave.

                                LUNA
Hey, it's great to see you again, my father sends his apologies.

Luna and Lucas laugh lightly together.

                                LUCAS
                Care to take a walk?

Luna nods in reply.

                                LUNA
                I would love too.

The two begin walking side by side off into the distance, their hands slowly intertwine.

Fade to black.
