Whoopi is a nun. In reality she is a lounge singer. She became a nun for her own good and security cause her life was in danger. A mobster wanted to kill her, as she witnessed a murder. Surprisingly, the mobster in question was also her ex-boyfriend. You guess she had a lot to confess to the Reverend Mother. She told her how she got "Naked in New York" when she got drunk. She told her about being one of "The Little Rascals" of her neighborhood when she was growing up. She told her she believed in "Ghost". She told her she had been a "Burglar" till she got caught. She also told her she wanted to have "A Little Bit of Heaven".

At the convent she was trained to become a real nun. She was asked to give her life away to God. She was asked not to lose her mind for having her life threatened.

"I'm Not Losing My Mind, I'm Giving It Away."

To who?!... To God, obviously. At the convent she was in good hands. She was taken care of. And she was taught to follow the rules of the convent, all the rules, without exception. At the convent, No "Golden Dreams", just dreams of poverty.

But her old life took it over, old habits came back. After being caught sneaking into a nearby bar, Whoopi is chastised by Reverend Mother and put into the choir. She made a rock-and-roll-infused performance of the Hail Holy Queen that infuriated the Reverend Mother on the Mass one Sunday. Then she was given a second chance at another Mass one Sunday on request of Monsignor O'Hara who was always on her side. This time she improvised saying.

"In the dark times, if you have something to hold on to, which is yourself, you'll survive."

Then she started to sing. But it was not the song everybody expected.

"I will survive
Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
And I've got all my love to give and I'll survive
I will survive
I will survive"

Reverend Mother was infuriated with Whoopi about the performance once again, and ordered that Mary Lazarus once again become the director of the choir. Instead, Whoopi convinced Monsignor O'Hara that the nuns should be going out to clean up the neighborhood.

"I am where I am because I believe in all possibilities." "If you don't look out for others, who will look out for you?"

Monsignor O'Hara just had to agree with that. Jesus Christ didn't wait people looking out for him, he looked out for people hitting the road. One of the reason why she wanted to go out in the street with the other nuns was.

"When you are kind to someone in trouble, you hope they'll remember and be kind to someone else. And it'll become like a wildfire."

People in trouble are in the street, they are not in the convent. So, forget about the wildfire in the convent. It has to be out in the street, where God is needed.

"It bums me out tremendously what the church has become, and if it's got me bummed, imagine what Jesus Christ must be feeling."

Jesus taught that we should use our financial resources to help the poor and needy through benevolence. And if the church is poor, it has to be helped just like any other poor people and institutions.

"When I forget how talented God is, I look to the sea."

Everybody is looking up to Heaven. But what if Whoopi was right? Maybe God ain't in Heaven but in the sea. In fact, the fish symbol is a sign of Christianity. And fish live in the sea, not in Heaven.

"I dig being a mother..."

That's why Reverend Mother was always against her. She was afraid Whoopi would take her over as The New Reverend Mother. But what Whoopi really meant, is that she just wanted to go home, get married, and start a family. She wanted to follow her own rules, not the rules of the convent.

"So, goodnight Whoopi. "The Long Walk Home" to "The Deep End of the Ocean" is where the talent of God lies."
