Fruit Salad

 

It’s really just too hot to think of eating food,

the sort that needs some cooking, needing to be chewed.

I’ll go down to the super-store, go and do some shopping --

the stuff I’m gonna purchase needing just a bit of chopping.

Two of the rosy apples, one pre-ripened pear,

a punnet of red strawberries, plenty we can share.

A bunch of five bananas, a perfect juicy peach;

we’ll even have some cherries, let’s say half a dozen each.

A kiwi and a guava, we’ll have pineapple too.

Do you want water melon or maybe honeydew?

For when it is sweltering, the heat, it hits the roof,

fruit salad days are back again – that really is the truth.
