THE MERMAID MYSTERY

Chapter 1:

Off the coast of a small island off the pacific- ocean.

The gang were having the time of their lives

Surfing, swimming,

just having plenty of good old summer fun

Tommy Cub quietly dove underneath the ocean and pinched

the back of Daisy Penguin’s leg

“Swim for your lives!” The crab creature is attacking!”

He yelled out once he came up for air

“Oh, grow up, you, big jerk!” That wasn’t funny!”

Daisy cried out before she splashed water in his direction

“Okay kids, play nice. Now I want you all back on the boat

 in the next fifteen minutes

And remember, to stay close to your swimming buddy.

 And whatever you kids, do

“Don’t go swimming round the coral reefs they’re too dangerous.”

Vicky Dragonfly’s aunt told them

“Hey Sammy, let’s check out that school of pup fishes!”

Tommy yelled over to him before he swam off after them

“Yah, in a second!” Sammy Turtle yelled back.

But before Sammy had a chance to catch up with Tommy.

The school of fish swam away in a different direction

Tommy was returning to the boat when his paw brushed

 against something.

He tried to shake it off

But he only got it tangled up even more

and started to go underneath the water

Minutes later

“Tommy, are you alright?” Vicky’s aunt asked him

once they were all back onboard

“One minute, we heard you yelling and the next thing

I knew you disappeared underneath the water.”

“Something grabbed my paw and pulled me under.

I think it was some kind of sea monster!”

Tommy cried out

“Oh, Tommy, you’ve some wild imagination your paw probably

just got tangled up in some sea weed.” Vicky’ aunt laughed.

She went to help him take off his wet suit when he cried out in pain

Vicky’s aunt bent down and looked at Tommy’s paw

“Oh my, it looks like you might have brushed it

 against some hot veins.

That’s what probably pulled you under.” She told him

“Hot veins?” But what the sea monster.”

Tommy frowned

“Really Tommy, for the last time there’s no such thing as

any dumb sea monsters.” Daisy smirked

“Okay kids,

I don’t want to hear any more talk about any sea monster

Just please be careful where you’re all swim from now on.”

 Vicky’s aunt said

“And Tommy, try to stay off that paw.

And if it gets any worst please let me know.”

 She added

Chapter 2:

After lunch Vicky and her friends went down below to

where the research lab was at

“Hey, what does this do?”

Sammy asked before he pressed a big red button

that was in front of him.

A loud horn blasted inside the room

“Well Sammy, it looks like it makes that horn go off.”

Mr. Star, who is Vicky’s aunt research assistant laughed

“Sorry, but seriously what does it really do?”

 Sammy asked again

“It’s supposed to dump all the dirty water out of our tanks.

But it’s not working very well,

and we don’t have enough money to fix it right now.”

 Mr. Star explained

“Why not?”

Isn’t the college supposed to give aunt Lucy, enough money

 to fix stuff like that?”

 Vicky frowned

“They’re supposed to.

But our research funds are running extremely low these days.”

Mr. Star answered her

“Oh no, I hope this doesn’t mean that this could be the last year.

Lucy and you could do one of these trips?” Cookie asked him

“Hopefully not, but there’s no need for you kids, to worry about okay?”

I’m sure it’s all going to work out soon enough

“Now, who wants to help me feed Snappy?” Mr. Star asked smiling

“Cookie, can you do me a favor?”

And grab some more fish nets from the next room please?”

 He added

Chapter 3:

Cookie quickly put a bunch of small nets inside her pocket.

She was about to head back when she noticed a well-dressed sea lion

 heading towards Vicky’s aunt office

Wondering how and why he was onboard.

She slowly crept towards the office door and pressed

 her ear against it

“I don’t care how you do it.

But do it as quickly as possible and find me that mermaid!”

 He was yelling

“I’m sorry Mr. Daniels,

but I’m a scientist who respects the ocean and all who live in it.

I’m not here to chase some fairy tale of make-believe mermaids

“Just so you and your company can make a profit from it.”

 Vicky’s aunt smirked

“They’re not fairy tales, we’ve heard many stories from the locals.

Who have claimed and have real proof that they do very much exist.”

 Mr. Daniels answered

“I see,

and what do you plan to do once you capture one

 of these so-called mermaids?”

 She asked him

“We’ve build a very special tank.

In where we can comfortably and closely exam them

And once one of these creatures are captured,

you’d be very highly paid for all your time and effects

“Plus, you’d be very welcome to study this mermaid

 all that you’d like to.”

Mr. Daniels answered her

“Very well, if and that’s a big if.

They’re really mermaid in these oceans be sure that

my crew and I’ll surly find them.

But only with your promise that they won’t be harm in any way

nor will they be kept for any sort of profits after they’re exam

“Would we’ve any deals.” Vicky’s aunt instructed

“You’ve my word.

I knew that I came to the right place for the job,

I’ll phone you in a couple days to see how the search is going

“And please, this must remain our little secret.”

He smiled.

And before Lucy could answer him back

Cookie lost her balance

 and tumbled into the room

“Oh hey, how’s it going?” She smiled

“What’s the meaning of this!” Mr. Daniels cried out.

Lucy patted Cookie on top of her head and smiled

“Oh, don’t worry about Cookie, here.

You can trust her with your little secret,

 isn’t that right Cookie?”

 She added

Cookie raised her right paw then answered

“I promise not to utter a word.”

“Oh wow, just wait until the others hear about this!”

she silently added to herself

“They’re never going to believe it.”

“Whoa, you’re kidding?”

She’s really going to hunt down a real mermaid?”

 Tommy cried out

“Looks like it, now remember you guys, not a word.

This is supposed to be a secret.” Cookie answered

Chapter 4:

The next morning the gang got up super early and went swimming

in hopes they’d find the mermaid

“I’m getting tired, we should just go back.” Sammy began

“Sammy, don’t move okay?” Tommy quickly interrupted him

“Huh?” Why?”

And before Tommy had a chance to answer him.

 Sammy saw why.

A fin was zipping through the water

Heading right towards them

“Oh, that’s just great.” Sammy sighed.

And before any of the gang had a chance to react.

A green fin came out of the water and smacked the shark right

on top of his nose, fighting with it for a few minutes

The shark swam away in a different direction

“Oh wow, there’s really a mermaid in these waters.

And she just saved our lives!”

 Tommy cried out.

The next thing they knew a big net was thrown over them

And they were begin lifted in the air

“Oh my god, kids, you found her!

” I can’t believe that you actually found her.”

 Vicky’s aunt cried out happily

“That’s wonderful

now can you get us out of here. Please?”

 Tommy frowned.

Mr. Star gently reached through the net and touched

 the mermaids tail

“She’s real.” He whispered to himself

“Yah, yah, she’s real and guess what?”

So are we, and we’re starting to cramp up

So, can one of you please get us out of here.” Cookie smirked

“Okay kids, point taken.” Lucy laughed.

She then opened the net and helped the gang out of it

While Mr. Star placed the mermaid down into a holding tank

“Now please, tell me how on earth did you kids ever find her.”

She asked

“Actually, she’s the one who found us

We’re going to let her go right aunt Lucy?” Vicky answered

“Oh, I’m sorry kids,

but we need to study her before we can let her go.

 You see, to us scientists,

mermaids are one of those sea creatures

That we never truly believed really existed.”

Her aunt explained.

Looking through the holding tank Cookie sighed and believed

that the rest of the gang was thinking the same thing

“She looks so sad, I wish we never found her.”

Later that night Tommy couldn’t sleep

he kept thinking about the mermaid

Trapped inside that dumb holding tank.

And the sad wave good-bye she gave them before

 they walked away earlier

He got up from his bed and slowly made his way

 towards the research lab.

When he noticed a small boat was parked next to theirs

I wonder whose boat

He nearly jumped out of his fur when Cookie

 tapped him on the back

“Shh!” She whispered then pointed to the three sea lions

 that had climbed onboard.

One of them was holding a bat and Vicky’s aunt

laid on the floor next to him

“Hey you!”

Chapter 5:

Tommy sprung up from his hiding spot and started charging towards them

“Whoa, watch it kid you wouldn’t want to get hurt,

 now would you?”

One of the sea lions smirked over to him

as he pushed Tommy

out of his way with his bat

“Stop that!” Cookie barked.

As she and Tommy watched as they took out the mermaid out

of their holding tank and placed her into theirs

And before they could do anything else one of the sea lions

pushed them inside the holding tank and closed the lid

Tommy tried climbing out of it but he kept sliding down

“Hey, look

Mr. Star is coming this way. I’m sure he’ll help us get out of here.”

 Cookie told Tommy.

But Mr. Star didn’t even look at them,

he just walked by them and asked the sea lion

“Where’s my money?”

“You’ll get it soon enough.” The sea lion frowned

Mr. Star looked inside the tank and mumbled

“Sorry kids, I hope that you’ll understand one day.

 That it wasn’t personal.”

Then started to walk away

“If you guys, want to get away without any more risk.

I’d put the rest of them inside the tank then throw

 the whole thing overboard.”

 He whispered over to

 one of the sea lions

 before he finally walked off

Minutes later

“Listen what’s that strange noise?” Daisy asked.

The water suddenly became all muddy and when it cleared up.

There was a dozen of angry mermaids staring at them through the glass

“Oh great, we’re goners for sure now.” Sammy muttered

“No, I don’t think so, I think they’re trying to help us get out

and back on the boat.” Vicky answered him

Chapter 6:

Hours later they were safely back onboard

“Okay, let’s go catch those jerks and get back our mermaid.”

 Tommy told them

“I wish we could. But I don’t see how,

I’m pretty sure that they’re long gone by now.” Vicky’s aunt sighed

“I think I know of a way that we can.”

 Cookie smiled.

She leaned over the side of the boat and asked

“We want to help your friend.

But we need you to help us find her first.”

One of the mermaid whispered over to the others giving them direct orders

“Do you think they understood you?” Sammy asked her

“I certainly hope so.” Cookie shrugged

“Maybe, I should just radio the police and let them deal with this.

I’ve already put you kids, through enough danger.”

 Vicky’s aunt added

“We don’t have time to wait for the cops to come,

besides I think they want for us to follow them.” Vicky answered

Ten minutes later they found the other boat

“Okay, now what?” Sammy asked them

“Hey, look there she’s

. the other mermaids are trying to break her free already

 by baiting through the ropes

“Since those idiots just tied her to the back of their boats.”

 Daisy answered him

“Didn’t we get rid of you nosey kids,

what are you doing hanging around our boat!” A voice yelled

“We’re here to take back what you took from us!”

Cookie yelled back

“Finders keepers!”

So, it looks like you rode all the way out here for nothing!”

The sea lion laughed

He was about to say something else when the rest of the mermaids

surrounded the boat and began rocking it until it flipped over

The next morning Mr. Daniels walked into Vicky’s aunt office

“I’m so happy to announce that I’ve heard through the grapevine

 that you’ve capture my mermaid

Is that true?” He smiled

“Oh, I’m so sorry.

But you were misinformed we never did find any mermaid

I’m starting to believe that they don’t even exist at all.”

Lucky shrugged

But

“Mr. Daniels, you’ve wasted enough of my time

 wanting for myself and crew

to chase a fairy tale mermaid. Now if you’d excuse me,

I’ve promise my niece and her friends a great time while also

 studying the oceans

“And you’ve disturbed that time for the last time.

Have a great day and please don’t return.”

Vicky’s aunt Lucy strongly interrupted him

Once he stormed off the gang cheered

“Way to go, aunt Lucy!” Vicky cried

“Well, I think this is one discovery that’s best kept our little secret.”

 Her aunt laughed.

And before the gang had a chance to answer her back

The water began to rip as it was saying thank you
