I once

Met a boy

With paper for a heart.

And on it

He wrote,

"My loves...

My dreams...

My wishes...

My hope..."

All of it

On that little square note.

That boy

On a day

When paper was tearing,

Met a man

Who said,

"To trade...

To sell...

To deal...

To shred...

The paper

For a steel one instead"

Convinced

That boy made

A deal with the Devil.

And his steel

Not strong,

But hard...

But cold...

But heavy...

But wrong...

His paper

He felt was too far gone.

He then

Met a girl

With paper much like he.

She wrote on

In pen,

"For chance...

For hearts...

For love...

For him..."

All of hers

Where his once had been.
