The image is of vanity,

temporary in space and time.

Gazing instead of glancing,

at the visage reflected.

That of material existence,

lingers before shattered glass,

cutting, tearing the flesh.

Never looking beyond,

the empty black sockets,

a skull only, never containing,

the eyes of the soul.

And darkness is found

within the mirror,

as a flame is blown out.

Unseen and unknown.
