Womb Talk

Look at me mommy! I am just like you
I hear every word you speak, take in every cue
Unseen by you, yet treasured, I feel your beating heart
Still so puny, still fragile, I am  sheltered from every hurt

I loved the song you sang last night, it lulled me into sleep
You spoke to me so gently, your voice like oceans deep
You told me about the hopes you harboured and your countless fears
I hugged you with my tiny arms when I felt your falling tears.

The world is big and bad you say, but there's also so much light
Flowers to smell, raindrops to catch and watch birds taking flight!
Granny's cookies, grandpas's tales, daddy's shoulder rides
I'll learn so much with everyone as I take bolder strides.

I'll run to you when the dark scares me, I'll hold your hand so tight
I'll scream for you when woken up by the screeching bird at night
Your sleepy eyes will still smile and your tired arms unfold
You're the refuge I'll always seek, no matter young or old.

So, let me out now mommy, I long to see your face
I long to wear my princess gown, all satin, silk and lace
I long to see you smile with pride, your love so pure and true
I am not afraid mommy, for I am just like you.
