The sky darkens to shades of gray,

As the world slows to a crawl.

Innocence burned and turned to ash,

Dissolves in the ensuing rainfall.

My gold statues melt away, revealing

That they were copper in disguise.

You saw the world in its true form,

As the color drained from your eyes.

The illusion shatters into a million pieces,

Like a mirror after a shotgun blast.

Mental health has eroded to dust,

The game is almost over, at last.

The calendar pages flip faster,

As the days blend together.

The last embers of youth die out,

Much to my displeasure.
