Derailed

I’m trundling my way along this sturdy metal track,

I’ll not even pause a bit, never will look back.

But look, there is some obstacle that’s blocking off my way,

I’ve no way of avoiding it, I find I start to sway.

The brakes are at their limit, straining, I can feel,

but really quite inadequate as they start to squeal.

I’m ploughing ever onwards to collide with such a crash,

I’m totally derailed by the force of so strong a smash.

My wheels, well, they’ve spun sideways, dropped me in the dirt,

I’ll have to take a minute now, assess where I’ve been hurt.

So this is now my problem, the rails are on my right,

how can I return to them – it sure will be a fight.

I’ll maybe struggle on and get my wheels back on that track

but how long will it be until there is one more attack.

Perhaps it’s better to give in, and accept that I have failed

when every single obstacle just makes me become derailed.
