Sunlight beamed down from the cracks in the roof shining onto the black leather fabric of the large book, words in red were marked onto it, ‘Shadow Tome’. The book itself was massive, with many pages, as I kneeled down to slide my fingers onto the rusted surface.

“The Shadow Tome?” Echo asks looking up at me, her expression full of confusion.

“Echo, get back,” I say pushing Echo behind me and placing the Shadow Tome into my jacket, my hand quickly reaching for my sword.

“Why do you protect her?” The voice came from the wooden door that marked the exit to the room, slowly it began to open, the red phantom like figure stood behind it, its black eyes focused only on me. “You. The great Ekros, protecting a little child. I thought you were strong, but your mind is weak, you should have left her to die.” The words were ghastly, deep and shallow, as for what he said, I couldn’t care less about his opinion, I had my reasons. “You should have left her to die, Ekros. She’ll be your downfall,” the creature’s voice shot through me. Passing me, I could hear it clearly, but I couldn’t clear less.

I aim my sword for the creature and rush forwards, but before my blade made contact, the creature vanished in an explosion of crimson smoke, before its voice once again plagued my existence.

“Echo will be your downfall, Ekros. Just let me take her off your hands.” I spin around, scanning for the creature, it now stood just behind Echo. “I think it’s time she joined the others, just like Arche did some time ago.” With those words the creature spoke, I froze. My eyes closing as I sensed the exact location of the creature. There was no way Echo would meet the same fate, and I’d make sure of it.

My eyes dart open, my sword falling from my hand so it struck against the limestone floor, my hand clenched, one foot moves in front of the other, my second foot moving backwards, my knees bend, before I move forwards, my sudden outburst of speed probably surprised the creature, as I darted around Echo. The creature didn’t even have enough time to react as my fist made contact and the creature was flung backwards, the sound of an explosion made my victory clear as the entire wall gave in and collapsed, dust covering the room in a thick cloud.

“The Shadow Tome. With it I can finally stop this, and Echo, we can find your parents. The Kyanox will pay for every life they’ve taken,” I explain. The cover of the Shadow Tome was made of some type of leather fabric, as I turned over the cover so that the first few pages could be seen. On the first page I could see the writing, the first paragraph explained the very reason for the books existence. ‘A book containing the mysteries of the many worlds, the creatures that inhabit them, and the things that are found within them.’ The second paragraph further explained what the book was. ‘Within this book you will learn about things no one else knows. You will learn about the good and bad creatures that inhabits the worlds, you will learn about mysterious artifacts and things that are not unique to only one plane of existence.’

The Shadow Tome is a database of many things, and within the tome is all I need to know about the Kyanox, and Genec.
