A Matter Of Trust.

There has been a new edition to our colony. He is a penguin who has travelled far and wide; he’s seen the world, he says.

Leadership is undergoing a change, he says. You have to look the part.

Now, it would be true to say that I have noticed the colony is paying me, their leader, a bit less attention than they used to. They are going their own way, asking themselves if I really know what’s best. This is a bad situation for any leader to find themselves in, so I will take this outsider aside and maybe ask for advice.

It’s all in the image,” he says. “You need to acquire The Look!”

What look?” I ask. I mean, there’s a limit to how much us penguins can change our appearance.

Trust me!” he says, very sincerely. “I have just the thing.”

And he does produce something that does make me look.....different. A yellow wig that at first glance I think makes me look kind of ridiculous, but the expert assures me it is just the thing in human circles.

I stand in front of the glassy surface of the water and inspect the image that I can at least partly make out. Does he really know what he is talking about? I suppose I’ll go with it, put my trust in his expertise.

It’s meeting night tonight. I’ll be standing in front of all my fellow penguins with my new up-to-the-minute look, and this will be the night when I will win back their full respect!
