Is this the only solution?

I’ve come to the conclusion

That simple substitution

Of choice for faith

Has left me lately

With nothing but time on my hands.

Who’s in charge?

Who’s steering the train

Changing the lane

Landing the plane

Stopping the brain

From going insane?

I made it this far on my own

Can I continue all alone?

Venture into the unknown

Without the safety of my home

I read about roads

Diverged in yellow wood

But if only I had known

The roads are dark and overgrown

No one tells you where to go

But one has trees and the other thorns

Push through the brush and walk along

Pray that you did not choose wrong

And always hum the tune of a different song.

But roads are pointless and days are long

Moments are fleeting and then they’re gone,

Time is just a reason to move on.

Standing up on weary feet

Getting wants and keeping needs

Remembering not to always please

I’ve never known what I am doing

I’ve made it this far by construing

A life built out of context clues

Little to gain, fortunes to lose

Terrors loom in the corners of the world.

I intend to go there,

Whether a hero

Or a little girl.
