1: The philosopher, if he is to determine what reality is, must be unrelenting in his pursuit of knowledge and devoted to a state of deep contemplation, as it is the essence of things that he wishes to understand.

2: As it stands, there exists a myriad of theories that attempt to explain how it is that we gain knowledge.  We may, for example, according to Locke, perceive reality indirectly through our senses, supplying the primary qualities of objects existing in an external world with mind dependent secondary qualities.

3: There are no theories that are flawless, however, no matter how well thought out.  What one philosopher dismisses as trivial another will seriously investigate, examining any overlooked points and unmanageable hypotheses he is able to cultivate.  Hitherto, and for these competitive reasons, there remains no regional school of thought where philosophy is concerned.
