"Hello 15. To state the obvious, it appears you've lost your memory due to YOU challenging my fucking power," The silhouette of a bald man with broad shoulders speaks, before chuckling.

"Or should I say attempting to," he leans on the mahogany desk which he's sitting at. His face comes into the light, and my brain goes into rewind. My vision blurs due to my eyes widening so suddenly.

"Lets make this quick because I'm sure by now I've got some assignments for you. They'll allow you back into my good graces."

"You're nobody. So don't try to find anything beyond this recording. You simply don't exist. No one ever has and no one ever will value you as a being. Your only value comes from the skills I've taught you," The tape plays, and I fall into my mind. I hear the audio but my eyes have lost focus of the man on the TV. Each and every second leading up to being placed in that alley mends my mind into chaos.

"Mister Sunny?"

"You live to serve me. You LIVE to eliminate people with the highest bounty. Everything about your worth is measured in,"

The screen goes black. I feel catatonic as I readjust to my settings.

"Mister S-Sunny," Daiyu calls out as her hand touches my left shoulder. Right, I'm in my living room, on the couch with...the stupid child. I feel her fingers softly pat my arm in an attempt to get my attention.

"You have to go," I say, still motionless.

"Are you okay Mister?"

"No! No! You have to go! Get out!" I jolt to my feet. My body heats up immensely as I ball my fists. Still staring straight I feel my chest tighten. I begin to shake as I ignite with rage I'm no stranger to.

"You're scaring me!" My head whips to the left and I'm greeted with the sight of Daiyu clutching the TV remote as she balls in the corner of the gray sofa. Then leave! You decided to come here, you decided to, my gaze drops to the black carpeted floor. To trust me, like her. The flowers in the middle of the yard.

"Valerie!" In no more than a second I'm running to, then out the front door. My body snaps to the direction of the carefully planted red roses. The more I approach them the weaker my legs feel. As I near, my chest feels excruciating and by the time I reach the plants every ounce of energy is pulled from my body. I drop to my knees looking at the stupid fucking roses. How could they ever make it right?

I want to punch them. I want to rip them from the soil. I want to set the whole damn display on fire. I can't. It wouldn't make anything right, as if I ever could. Defeated by my mind and body, I limply remain on my knees. "I'm sorry," I say barely above a whisper.

"You, you're  ninja remember?" Daiyu speaks from behind me. Her words come out hesitant. She's obviously still shaken from my outburst. Why can't she leave me alone right now?

"People don't know who ninjas are but they like them," her voice slightly chirps up.

"You're Sunny, not 15 and I'm Daiyu, not Blair!" She squeaks, ignoring me and giggling. I don't have to look to know she's doing one of those stupid fighting stances. Go away, I'm sad you idiot.

"Okay okay, don't talk. Plan B!" She continues. The hell is pla, her dirty tiny arms wrap around me from behind. They're almost too short for her hands to connect and trap me against her.

"What the hell is wrong with you? Let me go, can't you see I'm going through an internal crisis!" I spit out.

"I don't know what that means, but stop moving you're going to slow down the transfer," Daiyu answers resting her head on top of mine.

"Transfer? Get off now or I'll throw you!"

"Shush Mister Sunny. Let me transfer some happiness to you. I'll feel enough in my heart to give you."

"That's kiddy bullshit now will you,"

"I have to think of all the things that make me happy like rainbows, puppies, ice cream..." Daiyu rambles on and on. She's not going to shut the hell up anytime soon. The little brat. The audacity of her hugging me, talking about ninjas. Then it hits me like a bullet to the head. Honestly, no one knows me. I don't have a name, or family, or any purpose outside of being his puppet. Apparently this has happened multiple times, and each time I go back to him, why? I glance back at the roses. Not this time. I promise. I'll NEVER be his pet again.

"Transfer complete! How do you feel?" Daiyu celebrates.

"Like ninjas aren't so bad," I answer expressionless. If Morgan needs me so much he'll find me. I won't seek the bastard out anymore because that never ends well, so until then...Hi, I'm sunny.

"There's another bedroom across from mine. Nothing is in there besides a bed and wardrobe, but by the looks of you I don't think you can afford to be picky," I say to Daiyu as we walk in the the house.

"Now don't think about that decorating bullshit. As long as you have a place to sleep that isn't near me that's all you need. Also, I'm a shit cook but I can manage basic meals. Oh, and CLEAN up after yourself. This place is tidy and no runt from the streets is turning it into a hell pit," I continue.

"Oh blah blah stop acting like an adult," Daiyu whines, skipping beside me up the stairs.

"I am an adult and you're a child, a child who I'm letting stay in my house....What the fuck  am I doing?" I speak as the realism of this situation dawns on me for the second time.

"Just think of me as a roommate."

"A broke ass roommate who'll eat my food and pay nothing. Who'll whine and raise my bills. You're going to make kid messes and do annoying girl things and oh my God why am I," I loudly vent before Daiyu runs from side to the door of her soon to be bedroom. She doesn't wait for me before she opens the door.

"This bed is huge! Jump jump!" I hear her yell before I make it to the doorway. "Come on Mister Sunny jump!" She invites me, with her hair flaring in the air.

"No, get down." I decline, leaning on the door frame.

"Jump one time and I'll get down!" She argues as she springs toward the ceiling.

"I don't negotiate with children," I reply as I walk to the edge of the bed. "Now get down," I demand.

"If you say so, DAIYU ATTACK!" Daiyu huh? In a split second she jumps toward me and her small foot rams into my abdomen. It's not nearly powerful enough to budge me from my place, but the sudden action makes me clench and grab my stomach. She falls onto her back erupting into laughter.

Yeah Sunny, you're in for some shit.

A/N: And the plot thickens :) also, I apologize for the slight format change of the story. When I originally wrote this back in 2017 Booksie didn't have an issue using two different fonts (eye roll). In the previous chapters Sunny's thoughts were formatted different from the rest of the text so I could avoid writing (I thought) each time. Now I can only italicize them which to me only makes a slight difference :(

I love Daiyu as a character, completely unable or unwilling to grasp the gravity of what Sunny is going through. She's just being a kid while he goes through his midlife crisis. I also love the mystery that was adding with the introduction of Morgan and I can't wait to see where this goes.

Not going to lie, establishing Daiyu was a struggle because I'm not a child haha. I'm happy to see you like her character :). Thank you so much for reading!

It didn't take me long to re-read the earlier chapters. They are shorter than I expected, but I like the fast pace of this novel. I'm still loving the story. It is so weird, but that is something I like about your stories.
I noticed as I went through the earlier chapters that you asked readers to help you by pointing out errors. I'm afraid that I (and others) let you down a bit on that score because, in my case at least, I wanted to get into the story without stopping to point out errors. Your most common error has been with punctuation, especially with dialogue. But the errors have been inconsistent so I don't know whether you are uncertain how to punctuate dialogue, or whether the problem has simply been insufficient revision. The error doesn't occur anywhere near as often in this latest chapter, so maybe you've got that sussed now.
As for the story, it raises heaps of questions but I am happy to let the answers reveal themselves as the story unfolds. It gives me something to look forward to.

I struggle with dialogue when it comes to structure. I think faster than I type and its the worst.

I think you really capture the innocence of childhood here in this chapter. Daiyu is so sweet and even though she doesn't understand Sunny's situation, she still wants him to be happy. I thought the "happiness transfer" was so cute! I really think that we will get to see the two characters grow together as the story continues and see Sunny come around to love Daiyu. He seems to have a bit of a love/hate relationship with her. This chapter is so well written as always :) Looking forward to the next chapter!

So far I have read your four chapters and reading your work has been rather delightful. It flows along at a good pace for me and has maintained my interest. I'm looking forward to what happens next. I wouldn't worry too much about looking for errors. There is so much rightness and goodness in your writing. Lets see what these characters get up to next. Cheers, James
