Mum

Tired eye, glowing lamp

I talk and talk, telling you everything

Lazy television flicker, curtains drawn

Soft pillow, you reassure me

Keep me tethered, keep me safe

“Cosy”, you would say

Promise of no deadlines, no end

Eternal night, to sleep and soul to be still

In our island of forever, nothing can destroy

You tell me to sleep, to have sweet dreams.

Nightmare shatters the calm oasis

You're not really here, are you?

You smile sadly.
