Everyone hides behind masks of perfection,

Protecting their imperfections.

Some wear masks showing they’re glad,

From a young age, this was what they had.

Some wear masks of ire,

Time with them is usually dire.

Everyone hides themselves from the world,

Showing a fake.

Everyone wears one for their own sake,

To protect themselves.

I, myself, do too.

I can play any part,

That’s what I taught myself to do.

I can act a happy heart,

I can act average.

I can act like I’m expected to,

For what else is there to do?
On the inside,

I hide.

I am much more,

Behind a closed door.

I am a mystery,

There’s much more to see.

Everyone hides behind masks of perfection,

As I do, too.
