The absent

He’s not here anymore

At least not in mind

For he has wandered far and is lost

In the caverns of his own consciousness

Lost in the caves of memories

Searching the for light of the present

He lay still, fighting his battle in silence

We stand and wait, hoping for a sign of life

A twitch, a blink, anything

We hope he emerges victorious

In this catatonic battle

We hope that he will slay the demons within him

We all feel his absence

The laughter ceased, the happiness dissolved

Into a mixture of anxiety and pain

The fear of him never returning

And the painful hours until he awakens

All these disgusting feelings, the torture of time

But none of that can amount

To the battle that he is consumed in

And until he awakens

Or if he sleeps forever

He is the absent
