A puddle, clear and stagnant sits.

A child runs by and jumps in it.

The happy act of splashing through

conflicts the quiet, peaceful view.

An older man knows not to prune

A rosebud, soft and not yet bloomed,

but a child will pluck it from its bush

to tear and trample underfoot.

A child thinks not of self-restraint,

a concept useless to explain.

A child does what brings him joy,

without the thought he might destroy.
