A barbarian is a human who is perceived to be either uncivilized or primitive. Barbarians can be any member of a nation judged by some to be less civilised or orderly (such as a tribal society). A "barbarian" may also be an individual reference to a brutal, cruel, warlike, insensitive person. Mel was a barbarian. He didn’t consider himself as one. King Edward I of England and the English people saw him as a barbarian and a savage.

He didn't consider himself as one. King Edward I of England and the English people saw him as a barbarian and a savage. It all began when Mel was just a child. In 1280, King Edward "Longshanks" invaded and conquered Scotland following the death of Alexander III of Scotland, who left no heir to the throne. Mel survived the deaths of his father and brother. When he grew up, he also had to survive the death of his childhood friend Murron, her secret lover. This is when he turned into a barbarian out of the pain and loss of the love of his life. He wanted revenge, and the English out of his homeland. He became a "Maverick". His "Braveheart" was his "Lethal Weapon". All this was the consequence, the "Chain Reaction" of the crimes committed by the English invaders. The pain he felt in his heart after Murron's death took him to the "Edge of Darkness".

Mel rebelled against the English, and as his legend spread, hundreds of Scots from the surrounding clans joined him. Longshanks ordered his son Prince Edward to stop Mel by any means necessary. Longshanks accused him to be responsible of a "Conspiracy Theory". Mel became known as "The Man Without a Face" cause he painted it with the colors of the flag of Scotland. The English soldiers couldn't tell if his face was painted of if he was wearing a mask. Mel led his army to victory and walked toward England. He had many lethal weapons to defeat the English armies. Lethal Weapon 1: His "Braveheart". "Lethal Weapon 2": he had nothing to lose since all the people he loved were killed by the English. "Lethal Weapon 3": he was as mad as "Mad Max", the craziest guy coming out from Australia. "Lethal Weapon 4": he had a baby with Isabella of France, and their son would become one day the new king of England.

Unfortunately, Mel was victim of a conspiracy and captured in Edinburgh. It was the "Fathers' Day" of Robert's father, who promised his son would become the new king of Scotland. Then, Longshanks launched an "Attack Force Z" to end the guerrilla war started by the Scots seven years ago. Hopefully, the Scots resistance was "Forever Young". In 1314, Robert, now Scotland's king, led a Scottish army before a ceremonial line of English troops on the fields of Bannockburn. It was a significant Scottish victory in the First War of Scottish Independence, and a landmark in Scottish history.

Robert the Bruce led the Scottish army. But it was Mel who led the souls of the Scottish soldiers from the grave. When he was still alive, he would inspire his men before the battles.

"I Never Promised You a Rose Garden." I promised you freedom!"

He knew fighting the English armies would be bloody, and many of his men would die.

"Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live...at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing' to trade all the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take...OUR FREEDOM?!"

His men understood the price of freedom. It was worth more than life itself.

"They may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!"

They were the last words he shouted to his men before launching the attack.

"You know what happens when you don't take a risk? Nothing."

The best thing to do is to take calculated risks.

"They think I'm crazy, and maybe I am. But maybe I'm a genius."

English thought he was crazy. Scots thought he was a genius. He thought he was a crazy genius.

"Scotland is a great nation, but its horses are very uncomfortable."

The real problem were not the horses. It was the Scottish Highland. Any horses walking this land would feel uncomfortable.

"Pain is the precursor to change."

They were his last words to the English magistrate, after being hanged, drawn and quartered in London. They were also the words of Isabella of France when she gave birth to Mel's son, Nelson, future king of England.

"So, goodnight Mel. You are the real barbarian. "Conan the Barbarian" is an impostor. He's a cyborg called the Terminator who pretend to be a barbarian."
