He came at midnight

Under a black night and cloak.

From out the woods he came,

A white fog did the same.

His face was hidden

Behind a veil of darkness.

He approached me by my side

And whispered in my ear,

As I swinged in the gallows.

He sang deadly tunes

For I have now succumbed

To his hand of retreat.

No angel of Heaven

Nor God from the sky

Descended or came to me,

But only the unknown person.

Shall it be the Angel of Death

Who has come for me.

Or shall it be the Reaper,

Who feeds on lost souls.

Or shall it be the bridge

That defines life and death.

For now it is unknown.

I take his hand

And leave the flesh.

I walk beside him back to the woods

Leaving my body at the gallows.

How free I felt from the world

And we entered the gates of darkness,

Never to return.
