Looking Back

I avoid my reflection like the plague. I have learned to hate mirrors; they depress me. I clearly notice the beauty of others; but look with disdain at my own image. My parents have imprinted their ideals of perfection upon me for the entirety of my life. This is likely a result of their own insecurities. Nonetheless, I have absorbed it all. The age old question remains. Can beauty be acquired? Is it something that be attained through painful routines of exercise and surgery? Or is it an undefined attribute defined by the grace of our actions?
