"I could charge you with child endangerment, but I'm going to let you off with a warning this time. Heed my words," Officer Brown looked into Lynn's eyes, "Words can make or break you!"

Lynn rolled her eyes, and walked away. "Whatever!"

The officer grabbed her. "Where do you think you're going? I haven't released you yet! In fact, I want to show you something." He drove her to a crime-ridden part of town, with boarded-up buildings. He pointed to a scantily dressed woman standing on the street corner, with deep pits in her face, and dark circles under her eyes. "Do you see her? That's Vicky. She shoots herself up with heroin every day. She sells her body to survive. Do you know how she ended up like this?"

"How would I know?" Lynn replied.

"Because her mother constantly put her down, and eventually abandoned her!" Officer Brown slammed his fist on the dashboard.

Then the officer drove her to a nearby university. He led her into a classroom. "Do you see that girl in the yellow shirt with the braided ponytail?" he whispered. "That's Jamie. She's about to graduate with a 4.0 GPA. She got a job lined up in computer programming. Do you know why she's so successful?"

Lynn shrugged.

"Because she has a supportive, loving mother who's always there for her. What do you want for your child?"
